Undermount Sink Installation

Hello, I would like your opinion on how which type of installation should I use for an undermount sink.

First if I should select positive, zero or negative reveal. The guy who will process and install the countertop (quartz) suggested negative reveal of 2mm on each side which it will not work great as some of the sink accessories I have will not fit in, so he later suggested put 2mm left, right and back.

From where I bought the sink, in their showroom have sinks with either zero or positive reveal. They said will be easier to clean this way.

Another question I have is regarding the attachment of the sink to the countertop. the quartz guys said that they just use glue which I am not sure how it hold in the years to come. Also the sink has mount clips and the seller says he is using these and silicon to seal the connection. Which way should I go?

I prefer flush or negative reveals but you need to follow the instructions with your sink if you have a workstation sink.

Sinks are not glued to the countertops. The preferred method here in this forum is a cradle type harness. Joe the countertop expert here recommends the brand name "Hercules" for the harness.

Then clear caulk the sink to the top.

Being Greek, you’ll appreciate this. You’ll want them to use the Hercules Universal Sink Harness that mounts the sink to the cabinet.

You want a slight positive reveal for looks and easiest cleaning. This protects the stone bottom edge; negative does not and makes cleaning problematic. It also makes the least conspicuous joint between the stone bottom and the sink flange. Flush reveals can create an elongated silicone joint that frays, becomes contaminated, ugly, and unsanitary. Fabricators love the negative reveal because if they make a mistake, it is less likely to show.

There are adhesives that bond sinks, but they may bond them too permanently. The silicone between the stone bottom and the sink flange has adhesive properties, but its function is that of a gasket. You want a strap system like the Hercules Universal Sink Harness or a Sink Strap or two to mechanically push and hold the sink in place. Should your sink ever need replacement, you'll be glad you used this method, believe me.
