Aloha and Wild Edric

The ground squirrels are still at work in spite of two different sprays that are supposed to keep them away, and most of my 18 rose bushes are mangled if not bare sticks. However, I wanted to show off the few blooms I do have which are keeping hope alive.

The first is Aloha, which I love because of its very large blooms, although the color is not as saturated as it would be on a mature bush. Then it's Wild Edric, my faithful friend in spite of having some of its blooms ending up in squirrel tummies.

Those are beautiful! Looks like you resorted to chicken wire. I wouldn't be able to grow anything without enclosures. Sorry about that. Sometimes I just do the bottom part so if they

They're so clever, they'll wrestle off the top part and just climb in, so nothing is foolproof. I know I'm not the only one who deals with these issues, and I'm afraid it will only get worse in the years to come.

I had the gardener cut back some branches on some of the trees in the rose planting area. Looks as though my two crape myrtles will not be blooming this year, had not considered that. Anything for the roses to do better, although the immediate result was that four of Wild Edric's blooms promptly shriveled up from the additional solar radiation. Also had him add some rose fertilizer so now I expect incredible growth (the ground squirrels willing).
