Landscaping HELP design and plants

Need some design advise for my backyard... We have a interlocking patio , with a cedar big planter making it more private I usually set up our sitting area there , I always found the bare fence beside it ..very boring .. and not sure what to do there ... need of advice,

on the corner we have kids playground ...and on the back again some bare fence , still thinking what to do there.....

Sun faces the house most of the day .. so by the fences is not as sunny...

On the opposite fence i have tons of plants, a tree.. an ivy ..

To me, the back fence area has great potential. Just not with the fence. There's a beautiful mature screening of privacy plantings. So much that the fence isn't necessary. I'd much prefer looking at the green backdrop and planting colorful choices in front of that. That's what you're trying to do to hide the fence. I say remove it and then plant.

Thank you Dan but the fence is share with the neighboors ..cant take it down :(

Nothing's stopping you from planting in front of the fence, if you wanted a hedge or other plantings. I think the fence is attractive. I'd think 2 shrubs would be enough to change your look. Put a shrub in the corner between the edge of the patio and the fence in pic #1. If it's shady, get an Itea or Diervilla. You can put another shrub between the jungle gym and the conifer.

You could do a row of large, variegated hostas.

You never know until you compliment your neighbor on the beauty of his landscaping and ask if there is any way you can share in it more. One way would be to replace it with a metal fence composed of thin dark aluminum pickets spaced 6 inches apart. Home Depot.

The fence looks fine to me. Great privacy and security. Needs staining darker so it all matches. Then a few shrubs in front and you're done. The fence will disappear optically.

I agree staining the fence so it is uniform. A very dark color like charcoal or dark brown will let it recede visually. Any plants will pop against it. A lawn with surrounding evergreen shrubs and flowering plants is a classic look that can't go wrong.

I would move the lattice planter well away from the fence. It's no taller and doesn't do much there. If it were right next to your seating or table, it would provide more privacy and act as a sunscreen or windscreen as well. You could paint it white or sage green and get coordinating seat cushions and tablecloth. It would be fun to plant seasonal flowers in it, your garden decor in it and on the lattice, metal flowers, solar decor, etc., and make it a pretty focal point.

Paint the playhouse a dark color, too, or sage green so it blends into the surroundings.
