Dishwasher replacement

I bought a GE dishwasher when I remodeled my kitchen 2 years ago. The motor died right after the warranty. 3 months later there was a hose connect issue, and I had water leaking into the basement. Now I have water in the basement again. Recommendations for replacement that I can avoid the water issue?

@Sandy Cook --- what or where was the "hose connect" issue and is the water leaking again from the same place now as previously or is it from somewhere else on the machine? Or is it maybe in the water supply line or its connections to the house water pipes?

If you are dealing with a leak at the DW itself, I can second Foodonastump's suggestion to look at Bosch DWs with "technology that they guarantee prevents water damage like you’ve had," The Bosch DWs are built with a kind of tub around the very base of the unit which will collect leaking water from the rest of the machine. When the water gets deep enough (IIRC, a couple of millimeters deep), it triggers a float switch that shuts off flow to the machine and signals the panel to display to an E "error" message .

Had personal experience with this some years ago when my then new 300 series Bosch DW arrived with a cracked intake solenoid. The system worked as designed. No water went outside the collection tub. I saw the error code, looked it up, shut off the water supply valve, and called Bosch warranty service. The solenoid was promptly replaced under warranty and the DW has been problem free for the last 8 years.

For leaks in the supply hose itself or from the fittings at either end, Bosch also has offered some DW models with an additional optional "Aquastop" water supply hose. IIRC, this is a hose within the hose with sensors to detect leaks from the inner hose and/or from the connections at either end. IIRC, if a leak is detected, the hose shuts off the flow at the house-end of the hose and sends an error code to the machine's display. I have no personal experience with this and can't say whether it is worthwhile or not.

Adding… I would have to think your GE experience is largely bad luck which can happen with any brand. But Bosch is a safe brand to recommend, widely considered among the best dishwashers. And while I don’t know what safety measures other brands incorporate, Bosch models have technology that they guarantee prevents water damage like you’ve had.

Bosch. Have had them in two different homes - one for 8 years. The other has only been 4 years. Never a single problem or need for repair with either. They make great use of interior space too.

Five months ago, we replaced our Bosch DW with another Bosch. The old one, installed in 2012, was an 800 series and had that water leak detection feature. Five months ago, it threw a code and the water pump wouldn't stop running. Service guy came out, said there was a small leak that could be fixed for half the price of a new machine. We chose to not repair and I bought Bosch again --- because the leak detection system prevented damage to the wood flooring in our kitchen, the subfloor, etc.

We had a Bosch Ascent maybe—CR pick years ago. Finally needed to replace it —with another Bosch I think ours is the way there Benchmark which I believe is about the same as the 800 but more expensive. I liked the way there wasn’t anything protruding from the front face—needed every inch I could get between that and the island. Works great and I love it. The top silverware rack is a huge improvement.

I mentioned in another thread that we have had both a Miele and a Bosch, each in a separate unit of our duplex. I used each for several years. My take is that they both do an excellent job cleaning dishes. The Bosch costs about $1000 less and finishes the job in one hour less than the Miele.
