I think it's the dreaded HVX. I've only had it once and that was on a solid color hosta and it looked like that.

See what new leaves do. If new ones are clean and you care about the plant maybe it will be worth buying testing strips.

I spent the better part of the afternoon digging it up. It was a huge job for me!

When it finally came loose, it must have been 40 pounds! I could not pick up, so I used all my strengh to roll it over the edge of the raised bed. Then had to saw it apart with an old steak knife. Yikes!! Then I got all my clothes in the wash, shoes too and gathered all said tools for disinfecting. My husband was laughing and said, ”You’d think it was ebola.” I said it IS Ebola to hostas! 🤣😂😉

There’s nothing but a big empty space now. It was my largest hosta….. 🙁

So sorry Debra. I was hoping that like lindalana said, new leaves would be good. That is a big one to lose.

That’s a long time before it showed symptoms, but I had a similar experience with my Golden Tiara. It looked great for many years before it showed the HVX. I like that bright color of your new heucheras and hope they do well for you.
