Blooms are here!

Daylilies are beginning to bloom here. I am surprised since Stella de Oros around town haven't started yet. Now everywhere we look, we are seeing scapes well above the foliage. It won't be long now.

The first to bloom is Begin with a Bang. It's not very pretty but since it's reliably early, it has a place in the garden.

The second one is a seedling that been around a few years. It is Penny's Worth X Peas and Thank You. The flower is maybe 2.5-3 inches across. The night before it opened was rather chilly so it didn't open like it should.

Dumortieri is still in bloom as is a seedling with black scapes from Olallie.

The iris are winding down. I planted 21 new iris last year and got 10 of them to bloom this year.

I really like this iris, Mean Streak.

This is the first year for bloom for this Siberian iris called Ruffled Velvet.

Hooray! More blooms! When they start, it won't be long before there are more and I agree; Nancy; if it is early to bloom, keep it. We are always hungry to see blooms after the winter. The iris are lovely too, I really like the yellow one.

The iris blooms are beautiful and congrats on having daylily blooms. . I have no early daylily bloomers here so patiently waiting as the scapes are rapidly coming up.

Congrats on the start of your season! I have about 10 daylilies with scapes, but I don't think I'll see any blooms till June. You are lucky to have those extra earlies. The irises are gorgeous! I especially like the Siberian Iris Ruffled Velvet.

I always like seeing the Iris in bloom. I've tried to grow them, but since spring means my head is almost always buried in pots of daylilies, I don't really have time to enjoy them like I should. Rasputin is my favorite, but that golden yellow sure speaks out to me.........Maryl

Wow, I love some of these Irises! Hot Spiced Wine and Ruffled Velvet are my favorites of these.

Enjoyable iris. Come Away With Me and Rasputin especially catch my eye. I am always concerned when iris don't bloom the first year, since some never do bloom well, not liking the climate. But I suspect that they just need to get established. I am perplexed by the nonperformance of some iris. You divide them, and they sulk for years. Why can't they just bloom every year, like daylilies. I'm just not an iris expert.
