Paddling through the garden

last year
last modified: last year

Rains and storms continue. I think we are in single digits for number of dry days in May.

Big Red Bull did not look too bad in the rain

Come Sail Away has not multiplied past the two original fans in three years

After three years of not seeing a single bloom on this plant due to bugs, I was SO glad to see it again! Charming Charlie was my first suitcase lily!!

Nice grouping. Single digits for temp? Oh my. Charming Charlie is so pretty. So have you figured out how to combat the bug issues?

Thanks Julia. And not single digit temps but rather single digit dry days!! It is predicted rain again today as another storm rolls through after rain all day yesterday. I have a great appreciation for the term ”rainy season”!!

It took visual proof to convince a university professor of entomology that the lopidea bugs were doing the massive damage in my garden but I had so many photos of their destruction over the years that he worked with me for two years to develop a plan that appears to be working. I am looking forward to seeing other favorite blooms!!

We've had a lot of rain in May too, but not nearly as much as you! Big Red Bull is a striking bloom. It looks like a beefier version of Come Sail Away. I hope it multiplies better for you than that one. It's good to see Bubblegum Queen blooming in your garden. That one seemed to prosper here with an Indiana winter, going from 12 to 21 fans since last fall. Special Candy is one that still appeals to me. Geometric Wizard must be a good multiplier.

Ditto on the rain. I see Tulsa made the national news with 6.31 inches in the last few days. We had about a 4 hour break yesterday and I finally was able to pot up bulbs I've had since mid April (Crocosmia). Some had already dried up.......My favorite in this batch is of Kara Louise. That's a very saturated color and I hope to see more of her later. She's evergreen, so not for me, but still she looks lovely.....I wondered how your bug issue was doing this year. Now if the big critters don't get to you, this may be a banner year. Sure enough water to help with rebloom...............Maryl

Very nice, Kate Supposed to have rain all week still. By the time I can get out again, the weeds will be knee high from all this rain. That is a beautiful grouping of Geometric Wizard. I really like Bold Approval. I like Napa Valley Merlot and it is good to see Pean Green With Envy. Nice lot of blooms, good posting.

Charming Charlie was always weak here, with low bud count and bud drop. Coach's Magic Man--is it bigger than the 5-inch registration?

Lots of pretty daylilies!! Caribbean Dark Victory, Supergirl and Big Red Bull are my favorites of these.

We actually had a break from the rain the past three days, wonderful low 70's for the weekend and a cookout with the kids! Back to the rain today. Lots of scapes coming up.

Debra, Big Red Bull is already more fans than Come Sail Away. For some reason, the Pierces just do not multiply well for me. And Geometric Wizard is indeed a good multiplier.

Maryl, I do not even know how much rain we have gotten. A LOT!! Unfortunately, I have already seen one big deer headed toward the garden. It has rained so much the deer deterrent in ineffective.

Kay, I know about those weeds!!

Brad, no break in the rain here!

Mantis, Charming Charlie was always a good hearty plant with good bud count before the lopidea invasion. I hope it improves to that again.
