The daylilies are beginning to bloom here. The year old seedlings are always the first to bloom.

I neglected to get the parentage of this seedling. It is a mini with black scapes.

The backside of the sepals is more interesting than the front. They have a dark stripe that many of the species like dumortieri do.

Here is the first tet seedling of the season. It is Dragon Nation X (Small World Fire in the Hole X Stoke the Fire).

I usually crop my photos, but I didn't on this next one. I wanted you to see the black scapes of Vader's Choice.

The martagon lilies are beginning to bloom.

Claude Shride came up after being crushed by the falling trees in 2023.

Pink Morning is so small (just planted last summer) that you would have to lie on the ground to get a photo of the face of the flower.

Nancy, that is a nice seedling! If I saw black scapes and buds I would be searching for a remedy!! lol Those are certainly different. BTW, I have that same vine I fight in my garden. I always enjoy your martagon lilies. Hopefully the deer left most of them alone.

The deer did eat some buds on the martagons, but Bob put Irish Spring soap on sticks around the lilies. The deer haven't been back. Apparently, they don't like the smell.

I love the Martagon lilies, I have a few because the squirrels leave them alone. The irish Spring soap is an old remedy some friends used about 25 years ago, it worked for them every year.

Oh MY, Nancy. How very lovely. Claude Shride is. The back side of the sepals is indeed neat! I like it. This Martagon Lilies are so pretty!

I think the first daylily with the unusal underside is interesting. Love the lilies.

The yellow Dragon Nation seedling is nice, but what drew my attention was the black scapes. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have thought the color was truly black (which it looks like on my monitor). Can you imagine a daylily such as Little Black Buds (with true black buds) on those scapes? It would be a unique pre-bloom specimen in itself.....Looks like you've got a little bindweed in your area. It was a big problem for farmers when I lived in Indiana.. The Lilies are beautiful..........Maryl

From the side I did think that was Dumortieri! I like the flower much better though.
