I am a weed queen this year more than ever, so please ignore the horsetail, it has invaded worse than ever after a cool miserable spring following an almost snowless winter :(

If you'll indulge me in my pity party once more, this is a 'before' showing what I'm up against - I guess it's my new normal.

And now the 'after' - still lots more work to do and then rinse and repeat next spring, sigh . I am getting loads of help from my husband too, it's a restoration project more than a real garden nowadays

Yes it is, it grows well in Anchorage, Alaska !

I wish I had fields of them, but I have 2 that have been with me for more than 10 years and trying to find a sweet spot for more, I've got some tiny seedlings to nurse along.

Coral Charm peony just starting to bloom.

A peony that I don’t know what it is :( I grew it from one of those bags of roots from wal mart. It finally bloomed after four years. If anyone can ID that would be cool. Same with the hosta. Grew it from a bag of roots, but don’t know what it is.

This Westerland rose has been in this spot for over ten years. About 5 years ago I planted this deep, maroon clematis (unknown) at the base in hopes it would clamber up. The last few years it climbed half way up and had a few flowers. This is the first year it has grown all the way to the top. Been waiting a long time for this combo to play out and it's very sweet.

Wow to lat62, peren.all and many others. How do you guys track and remember the names of plants? I have a database I bought a few years ago and I now enter every new plant we buy, but I then forget exactly which of these 4 epimediums is which :o), and of course there are many plants we acquired before starting the database.

and phlox. This is Blue Paradise. Sometimes it is bluer, but nog this year. Must be the heat!

Variegated mock orange, unknown cultivar. Flowers profusely on old wood, sort of. On older canes it puts out small new growth about 6 inches long and they are covered with these white flowers. Leaves on new canes are the most noticeably variegated which is a nice bonus. It's also lightly scented. One of our favs.

A different type of meconopsis I bought last fall from our botanical gardens - they have a nationally accredited meconopsis collection (I'll be visiting on Tuesday and hope to see a number of varieties in bloom - that'll be July by then though, so happy July in advance)

Not everybody likes these Nora Barlow type columbines, but they pop up here and there by seed ever since I've owned the place, so... I like them!

The foxgloves are fading, those roses are blooming and the Day Lilies and Crocosmia are just getting warmed up.

I need to catch up… I was very busy getting ready to teach a large basket class, then had a destructive storm and was without power for days, and it’s been either cold and raining or too freaking hot. So anything I want to post? My garden helpers! This one takes care of the shrews, chipmunks, etc.

And this one helps me with everything. Or at a minimum, she follows me around. :)

Amazing puya. Berteroniana...garden visiting with daughter, at east ruston (old vicarage). I am 3 years in, growing my own bromeliad, so needing inspiration as there are at least another 3-4 years to wait for a bloom...at which point, many bromeliads die. Lost .y seed deets so not sure whether I have this or the really fickle alpestris. Fantastic surreal colour,hey?

I finally caught a decent photo of a bumblebee going after some foxglove

and I’m emptying my compost pile. Despite the clothing being marked 100% cotton, I always find thread in my compost! The threads from jeans are the worst.

Last call? This looks better IRL, but my now pretty old smartphone's camera seems more and more prone to overexposing. Not sure if the sensor is going bad, or some kind of deliberately cripped camera software that google is furtively sideloading, to try to encourage me and other holdouts to buy a new one! I should use my 'real' camera (a Fuji MILC) but I'm too lazy to drag it out.

Lilium leichtlinii, Kniphofia 'Gold Rush', and Gardenia 'Frostproof', which had some leaf burning this winter but quickly came roaring back. It and 'Kleim's Hardy' are the hardiest and the only ones worth growing around here.

A warning about L. leichtlinii, of all the various lilies I've grown, it is by far the most favorable to rabbits. This patch is protected with a fence, they've killed off other instances of it in the garden, even though they leave various other lilies alone.

Now that it’s an hour before midnight on the last day of June, I figure I should post my stuff here! First the bad stuff. So very very hot here last week, and this week only slightly cooler. I do believe the world is burning. At least this week – the few weeks before this it was unseasonably cool. One extreme to the other. Several of my hostas are partially fried. Most of the ones that got zapped are in about ¾ shade and usually don’t get bothered by the late afternoon sun, but here it is June and they are already crunchy. The ones in the bed where I lost three oaks actually seem to be a bit better – hit, but not as badly. I wonder if they have built up a tolerance…

Digitalis grandiflora – so incredibly reliable, thrive on utter neglect, bloom in deepest shade, attract so many bees!

The hydrangea behind the digitalis is White Dome. It has really started blooming this week - every year I am completely amazed at how this thing attracts pollinators. The bees and other things go absolutely bonkers for it! I often just stand there for a spell and watch. I took a video but can't get it transferred from my phone so I'll have to re-try a shorter one. It's just amazing.

Mockorange blooms – pretty but no smell. Well, actually, they smelled pretty bad when I stuck my nose in them lol!

Lyda Rose – one of my faves! Had a lovely shrub at a customer’s house. Decided to plant one in my own yard last year so these are the first blooms

Daylilies – I can never seem to remember most of their names!

Helenium starting to bloom – happy to see the size of this plant. This is about it’s third year and it was a bit weak and puny the last few years. Looking better this year!

Rose you asked for it (you may be regretting it - I know I am going to regret posting it lol) but here is a wide shot (long shot lol?) of half of my garden. It actually looked rather colorful and pretty, if a bit messy, as I stood there. Once again I must blame my lousy camera for things looking so bad lol. Just kind of an indistinct mess!

Had been hoping for a second chance when I saw these new buds on my calycanthus but see some telltale black spots on these as well. Fingers crossed!

A perfect bloom of Iceberg. Have to enjoy this before every leaf falls off. This is only my second year with this rose. Last year, my first, I found out that she is nothing but bare sticks after bloom. I am considering removing her, but look at this bloom!

Thank you all for all the June posts! Everyone has a lot of color! Dee, nice to see a wider view of your garden and I loved that shot along the street edge with the butterfly bush Molly. Loved your pink daylily. Loved the photo of the cat garden helpers. And I couldn't really see the moose, but having baby moose in the backyard...now that's a wild and unique experience...lol. And wow on the on all those blue poppy seedlings. David the rabbits are still causing havoc for me too. They've chopped down a lily that was about to bloom a week ago. *sigh*

My garden is in a lull right now. Waiting for the lilies and the daylilies, and a second round of roses. Unfortunately no coneflower the rabbits ate them. Then the Hydrangea paniculata and Hibiscus before the Fall.

What’s the name of the blue poppy’s !?

This rose is, I think, Passionate Kisses. It’s doing a lot better this year than previous years. This is close to its true color.

Himalayan blue poppy meconopsis betonicifolia was trendy on GardenWeb around 2010. Lat62 is one of a few who had success with them. I'm a coward who didn't even try to grow them LOL.

I especially enjoyed peren.all's siberian iris photos and of course the feline garden helpers. A Pets in the Garden thread would be fun or just keep including pets in the monthly photo threads.

SeniorBalloon I just really enjoy knowing both the common and Latin binomial. I use the Latin binomial when naming so that anyone can look it up and get the correct plant unlike confusing common names. Kudos for having a database! It can make life so much easier.

Alchemilla mollis

Peren.all - Where do you have that Alchemilla planted? Sun/Shade? I have a patch and it doesn't perform as well as that. I have it in a lot of shade.

I have it in a few spots and they all get a fair bit of sun. This particular one gets shade in the a.m. but hot sun after that. I have some that get sun all day. My soil is moisture retentive.

Hypericum frondosum sunburst. Pollinators love it. Nice clean plant that keeps good shape. Foliage is a nice silverfish green. It doesn’t bloom all at once so it doesn’t have a wow factor when in bloom but I like it. Also rocket city daylily

James my Rocket City daylily is in bloom now as well, and I love it! So vivid!

Thanks Peren.all - I am going to divide it and put it in a few places and see where it does best. That must be great to have a moisture retentive soil. I have clay that I suppose is moisture retentive, but, so many trees close together, I think that dries out my soil. I couldn't grow an Astilbe and other moisture lovers at all

I just bought a Rocket City daylily but it's very small and doubtful it will bloom this year. Looking forward to it.

It is a good thing that I do because I never water the garden! I am on a well and it would just be too much to water. My plants get tough love lol!

prairiemoon -- I have Alchemilla in morning shade & full afternoon sun with moisture-retentive soil (mainly clay), but also have it in a rather dry garden with the brick front walk along one side that gets more sun, infrequent watering (I, too, have a well). It does well in both locations, and makes babies even into that brick walkway! I love this plant. For me, it isn't fussy. YMMV!

Thanks for that Roxanna. I have had mine a long time and I figured it would work better in another location but - sun is at a premium here. But seeing Peren.all's luscious patch of it, I am going to try to move it.
