hydrangea leaves drooping only in some spots

Just posting this is I am stumped - I have a macrophylla which is mature and generally very healthy. For some reason, this single branch is drooping even though the rest of the plant is green, upright and forming flowers. I know there is a bit of a fungus issue that seems to be affecting that stem - would fungus also affect how the stem takes up water?

Maybe that branch is damaged closer to the plant. Reach in to find where it attaches to main plant stem & cut it off.

Is there mechanical damage? A crack, pests tunneling (borer insects, grubs, voles), or physical bending could lead to a "localized" wilting. If that stem is linked to a compacted soil, a winter injury, the start of localized root rot, etc, it may struggle visibly now that the whole shrub is actively growing and needing more water.
