Hydrangea Pruning Question

last month

I am in SE PA Z7a. This is Hydrangea paniculataQuick Fire’ which I usually prune hard each year in late March. I just noticed that one of the stems I pruned is now probably dead and not producing growth. My question is should I prune it out now or wait – will the pruning cut cause the shrub to defer putting on new growth and possibly flowers in order to heal the wound? TY
