landscaping rework

Just came back from Colorado and was so impressed by what I saw…. I want to redo my garden.
Here are photos. I need to redesign with minimal maintenance from now on because I have spinal stenosis. HAS to be what deer won’t eat and I will not be spraying anymore so I will list the plants I have that they leave alone. I will include pictures/ names of current plants… all full sun.
We have a septic system so the large rock in the middle has to stay as well as the current hardscaping. Also the planter with the 3 hanging pots conceal the septic cover. The large bush is a Miss Kim Lilac and we get beautiful fragrance from it and swallowtail butterflies love it

    Below are more pictures.
I have blue rug juniper that I have severely cut back because they had become food for the deer/bunnies this winter, but they seem to be recovering. I don’t think? that I should have plants taller than the rock so for sun….have painted ferns, lamium, variegated sedum, lilies and sweet William
(Which is supposed to be an annual but comes back anyway)
Ps I’m in Minnesota. Zone 4.

The blue rug juniper normally cascade over the large rocks.
Additional, plants are peonies and a variegated hosta that the deer seem to leave alone (MOST of the time anyway)
The cranes, birdhouse, mobile, planters, etc can be moved or removed.
Thanks in advance for your help… will answer any questions for info that I missed
Last pic is from the front doorstep

I LOVE IT…. But I guess I should have sent one more picture which I am adding now.
Because of our septic…. There is a wall of rocks … the junipers, (which have been cut back) have been and will be cascading over that rock wall in the back.
I do greatly appreciate some of the other ideas and will see about incorporating them! Looks like I should keep the height lower with the plants and let the bush be a focal point.

Thank you so very much for your response!
    I really appreciate it!!!

I am good with removing the pot and Knickknacks…. there are no fake flowers, I don’t like them either. It is a fake rock, covers thepump. The lilac bush hasn’t been trimmed in years, it’s a maids Kim and that seems to be its natural shape.
The junipers will eventually cover the wall, should I remove them and put in creeping phlox?

I can remove the solar also

Still open to any other suggestions?
I haven’t been able to work outside anyway because it’s been raining nonstop!

Are you saying those identical shiny red tulips are real???

Sorry, I misinterpreted the lilac. What I thought was the stem of a lollipop trimmed tree is the plant hanger on front of it.

Ooops. Forgot about those.!! My husband recently gave me those…. I had to put them somewhere. Oh well…. He doesn’t buy me gifts very often, but he bought me those large shiny red metal tulips. 🤔
Maybe I can help them work their way to the side of the house 😉

They might be fun together in a planter by a door rather than scattered through a bed. Or indoors.

If anyone has ideas on how to pick the height of the plants or how to do groupings,
    I am all ears.

I divided your space into different heights using the bench as a focal point. I'd add something tallish and stand-out on the left side to serve as a counterpoint to the large lilac in the back right side.

I too have a lot of back paint and have had to seriously curtail my gardening. I like large grasses for this reason because they cover a lot of space and require little weeding. I don't know which are deer safe.

I like the idea of cascading juniper. I'd treat the area above the boulder ledge somewhate separately with lower ground cover.

Make a grouping on the patio somewhere for the decor with the iron plant stand and the lantern, the flower pots, etc. Then you can stick the metal tulips, the windmill and anything else the flower pots. Nothing wrong with a bit of whimsy. Keep the rock garden natural.

I love the tall heron sculptures and think they can stay in the rock garden.

Ornamental grasses are nice and add motion in the breeze so you could work one or two of those in. When I think of Colorado, I think of Blue Spruce which would be a nice background tree...there are varieties that reach only 10-15 feet.

I love the birdbath but it is not natural looking, maybe put that on the patio too. I like the flagstone path leading to the little rock bench.
