Debra, here's to ya!! Singing the blues right along with you...

I have a shady corner in the SW of our yard where I keep quite a few of my blues in open shade, they see no direct sun at all.

Dead center: 'Bulletproof' with another division to the left of it. Immediately to the right of it is a NOID which is either 'Halcyon' or Hadspen Blue'. I've been referring to it as the latter but I got to taking a closer look at it a couple of days ago and it's so frightfully similar in a lot of respects to 'Bulletproof' it isn't funny. BP is more glaucous but man, it's close, including vein count and leaf shape. HB however has a slightly more rugose aspect to its leaves so the more I look at them the more I'm inclined to say it's 'Halcyon'. Right above that 's 'Firn Line' and left to that is 'Ben Vernooij'. To the left of BV is 'Remember Me', bottom left corner is 'First Frost' and you can see another one of those doing a funky variegation thing right below 'Halcyon'. At the very top is 'Regal Splendor', very bottom is 'Fortunei Hyacinthina' with a 'Touch of Class' peeking out just above it.

Here's a comparison of 'Bulletproof' and the NOID/'Halcyon'. The splotches on some of the leaves are some dirt/residue from watering with a can.

Blue, you say? That’s Halcyon in the right front.

An unknown blue with a plant tag for scale. I think this is an older variety.

Storming here now, but when it stops I’ll go get more 😉

Nice ones old_dirt! I have a Krossa Regal, but can never decide if it’s blue, gray, green….

Debra - I'm thinking it's all about the amount of sun and time of day we take the pictures. Later in the season the blues start to wear off.

    @djacob Z6a SE WI

I’m in SE PA Z7a – I was reading through a discussion started by @Heruga (7a NJ) wanting to identify a Hosta as ‘Elegans’ or not. In that discussion you provided information from Mark Zilis – Hostapedia regarding ‘Elegans’ (thanks).

The discussion and info got me curious about some of my Hostas, which I just assumed to be ‘Elegans’ because I had one many many years ago (about 35) in a previous house and it looked the same – very scientific. So I decided to take a better look at my Hostas and my assumption.

In the attached photos the Hostas are at least 15 years old and all were here when I moved into my house – they are quite resilient. Over the years, I have taken divisions and planted them elsewhere.

The Hosta seems to tick all the Mark Zilis ‘Elegans’ criteria and I even counted the veins – so now I think it really is ‘Elegans.’ Thanks again.

Laurie, that 'Monashee Blue Cup' is doing just GREAT! Though it's taken a few years, that 'Tickle me Pink' I got from you is just lovely this year...

Not wanting to hijack this thread with pictures of yellows -sorry 'bout that- these are a few more blues of mine.

Center 'Wind beneath my Wings', right 'Waterslide' and bottom left 'Blue Angel. WBMW and WS are very close in terms of overall form but I much prefer the colour of WS, much more intense and given WBMW's background I suspect it'll loose its glaucous coating if exposed to too much direct sunlight, just like one of its parents: 'Queen of the Seas', matter of fact one of those is now almost green.

Pieter Monashee Blue Cups is tremendous and I thank you for it every time I see it! I am so happy that Tickle Me Pink has finally jumped, it was so tiny. It really is looking lovely!

It is odd that I do not see Elegans in my previous post. I only see it when I click on edit. Does anyone see it?

    A few I forgot.

Peren, you have so many awesome blues! I love love love Gemstone!! As you know I purchased one because of your’s.

It is so hot here today and the next few days. Excessive heat warning in effect. So last night I lugged all my pots onto the

porch so they wouldn’t dry out. I noticed when I checked Gemstone for water that it is super root bound and needs

to be planted. After the heat! Pieter, I don’t mind a lovely yellow snuck into the thread……. Raymond, compare your

Elegans to the pictures above. The Elegans I have is blooming now, and yours is too. So perhaps it is!!

Debra I think Gemstone is one of the best! I am so glad yours is ready for the ground once it cools off. We have heat warnings too. It is SO hot today. It is 100 but 113 with the humidex.

Peren, BTW, I see Elegans in your post…….
