Design Help - Kitchen

last modified: 26 days ago

I am renovating my kitchen, new cabinets and countertops. I am not great at design, so I’m feeling indecisive. i have selected Quartz as countertop material, and white cabinets on the upper cabinets. I planned to do the small island cabinet in a darker wood stain or a gray. I’ve received suggestions to do all lower cabinets in the dark wood stain or gray. I’m unsure if that would look odd or seem dated quickly. Picking the countertops has been difficult as well. I’m attaching one we like as a potential option. Not sure if that would look okay with these ideas.

Included is a photo of a cabinet sample (white) and our floor tile. Also included a photo of an inspiration photo with gray island. Lastly I’ve included a couple countertop options we looked at. The top contender is the one called Calacatta Gold.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

The gray ship has sailed. If you want your island to be the star of the kitchen, there are many beautiful colors to choose from.

Much more important that the color scheme is the layout. If you post the dimensions of the kitchen (down to the fraction of an inch, including windows and doors), and some photos of the existing kitchen, and your goals for the remodel, we can help you design a workspace that is functional and beautiful.

The lighting in the inspo photo shows a beautiful base, but your lighting will look different too.

the SW Mindful Gray is too gray... and as ^ gray is gray...

the Calacatta Gold countertop will go with a more greige choice, like SW Jogging Path.

    try a sample.

I completely had forgotten photos of the actual kitchen! Oops! I just attached. I will have to get all the dimensions. We are keeping the same layout. We do plan to put in taller cabinets to maximize space, and drop a tall counter to the left on the peninsula where sink is. i am terrible with paint colors, so I really appreciate that input! The walls are currently Agreeable Gray all over the house. I am not opposed to repainting the kitchen if I have to. But it’s not super ideal.

No Grey cabinets. Agreeable Grey is a greige that shifts warmer in some lights so it works well on walls. Leave island wood tone or paint an accent color is the rest are a shade of white. If you are not changing layout base cabinets could stay wood tone with white uppers and maybe some wood tone crown molding to tie them together. The black fridge will stick out of all white cabinets.

Get a countertop that can go warm or cool for more versatility when ever you change floor or walls in the future.

Thank you! i am definitely leaning more towards a wood tone on bottoms. It sounds like it would look nice! As an aside, we plan to get a new refrigerator, SS and counter depth.

YeaYes, I definitely would do either darker or lighter wood tone. i was leaning more dark bc I like darker better, but lighter may help lighten overall without so much contrast. This room is very dark. Great idea on the backsplash.
