Kay, I have loved Southern Cotton this season. It is on the down slant edge of that bed if that makes sense and I have wondered if rain water tends to drain too fast off of it. With so much rain this season, it was not left out!!

Late Starter is registered as orange but this color is what I get every year. By this time each year the foliage is usually getting ratty but not this year! We had another storm last night.

OH! Do I have daylily envy! Gorgeous.

Hmmm….. daylily envy is what got me in trouble!!!!

Love that Southern Cotton, gets me every time, definitely always a favorite. Passing Fancy caught my eye too, love the colors. I added Exotic Starfish two seasons ago and it hasnt bloomed yet, sad.

Exotic Starfish and Southern Cotton are both striking clumps. High Water Mark looks good too. High Water Mark never did well for me because it was repeatedly hit by grubs. I brought it with me, and I hope it does better here.

Late Starter is pretty. I don't remember seeing it before.....You know I like Pinewood Lily Pad........... Trahylta looks so good in this clump shot. The color is really nice in your area. This one and another oldie, Blueberry Breakfast, are always on my long list. What keeps them there and not in my garden is that I just know the color won't be as presented in your picture in my climate. So very eye catching.........Just a side note to you. I read your complaint about having plants that you still can't get into the ground. Me too. Rather costly mail order plants that are looking pretty anemic in their pots by now. I think about you and I and the boat we are both in every time I look at them. It's drying out now (duh- with high winds and 95 plus heat it should), but I have to make time to do it too. Gardening isn't sitting on the veranda with a Lemonade in your hand......Maryl

Sherry-Passing Fancy never disappoints. It looks like this no matter the conditions and not only blooms a long time but usually reblooms 2 or 3 times. Interesting about Exotic Starfish-sometimes they just like to settle in before they scape. Maybe it will be a late scaper this year.

Debra, I hope High Water Mark does well for you in its new home. Its a great multiplier here.

Maryl, it’s a sign of the weather pattern here for Late Starter. It usually does not begin blooming until July and the foliage is usually so dry and ratty I rarely photograph the bloom. With all the rain it couldn’t wait to get started this year! Yes, I have several pots of plants waiting to get into the ground as well. I bought several new coneflowers this year and finally got them planted before the heat struck. I have a new butterfly bush that has not gotten into the ground along with several daylilies.

All I can think to write is WOW. Love that Pinewood Lily Pad. How long have you had it? Increase? His plants always did well for me in NYS. Glad to know it does well in a hotter climate.

Julia, I got Lily Pad in April 2023. So last year was first full year of being in the ground. I am not a fan counter but I think it has multiplied well. Here it is last year after a year in the ground compared to the pic above.

Kate, I know I have got to put down soaker hoses this year since the rain has made so much difference. I must say you Exotic Starfish makes mine like a baby. I have been remiss in i,proving my beds, adding to them instead but I believe there will only be very small increases from now on....of course, that is what I usually think and then I go crazy again.

Kay, of course you will go crazy again!!! It is the nature of the gardener!! Quite obviously the rain has made a tremendous difference this year. No doubt, both rain and fertilizer have made them bloom like crazy! I also credit the cardboard and leaf mulch enriching the soil. The gardens get the leaf mulch twice a year. I think this plus the rain has really enriched the beds. Of course there are some stubborn ones that refuse to multiply and are content to remain at two or three fans.

Wow Kate, what a great post. So hard to pick any favorites, but I will force my self. I will say my favorite 3 are High Water Mark [great color], Southern Cotton, and Passing Fancy. I'm not sure Exotic Starfish would be one I'd want, but it sure makes a statement!

Pattern Popper is one I haven't seen before. Exotic Starfish is obviously thriving. Many of your pics are overhead shots--do I recall that you take the pics from a golf cart? We certainly get a clear idea of the size of the clump.

Brad, your favorites are some of mine as well. Southern Cotton is probably photographed more than any other in the garden.

Mantis, the golf cart has not left its pad in at least three weeks! The ground is still too wet to ride over it. I have not thought of doing overhead pictures as a deliberate posing! :) In my gardens where it is difficult to maneuver due to the massive foliage and continued soft ground, the picture is usually just one where I can get in and sometimes just stretching my phone out to get a photo!

What a great post, lots of my favorite purples! Everyone loves Exotic Starfish, just makes a nice statement. I could wish mine were a little taller, but then I am sure it would flop. I have had my eye on Pinewood Lily Pad for a while, I like the look and don't have anything like it. Beautiful Soft Summer Morning
