I am not one to worry about anything being symmetrical, so I would not put a piece in front of the baseboard heat. You could find a tall Armoire to utilize the vertical space.

Do you have room for bedside tables? One could be a chest of drawers.

A good edit might solve my problems… there’s only about 18 inches on either side of the bed so not room for a chest. And yes there us a desk on the opposite side between the closets. It’s built in.

The window alcove looks ripe for redevelopment with some built-in drawers, but hard to tell from photo what’s there now.

One side is a built in chest that I have extra linens/blankets stored in and the other side is a built in desk that’s used as a home office.

I would paint the built ins in the recessed area, the same color you have painted the walls.

Choosing a piece with legs to clear the baseboard will help. Adding a plastic shield to direct heat away from the bottom of the piece would protect it some.

I agree with Lyn Nielson. A larger piece that uses vertical space makes sense. You can also get a bed frame with drawers.
