Time for Some More

last modified: 11 days ago

The garden was overwhelming in its beauty this morning, with some fortunate intermittent clouds. But oh, so terribly humid, and I ache from the unsettled weather. This afternoon, rain. A tropical day.

I am not finished till I put names.

Sultry Girls has exploded this year, from "sultry" to "steroids."

Another Heroes on Horseback. Aptly named.

Another Heavenly Starfire. It towers above the others.

Stone Palace Ecstasy

More Sultry. Yes, not the perfect lighting.

Wall of Fire is not a great grower, but can capture attention.

Meme's Merlot, out of Still the One.

Blood of the Martyrs was taken in sun.

Wild Cherry Wine

Man of Sorrows has looked so good.

Darlington County, another Stamile pink, was great this year, but I had a hard time getting the right light.

Roman Cohort. Has looked great this year.

Free Wheelin

Southern Shiner has been filled with buds and obviously likes the north.

Addicted to Love.

Isabel Rose is a daily backdrop.

Vatican City has shone, at a time I was considering terminating.

Yellow Monkey--such an accent in the garden.

Sultry Siren filled with buds. A Gates evergreen that has always performed well here, but this year with bud count well into the teens.

Another post that just says wow! It is like a buffet, each flower I see looks better than the one before. I just got Sultry Girls this spring as a bonus plant, and was happy to have it. It bloomed on short scapes, but gave me a view of what it will be. Southern Shiner looks like a large flat flower and I love the color. I don't remember Roman Cohort ever thrilling me, but yours looks wonderful. Blood of the Martyrs looks really nice. Even Yellow Monkey looks good to me. I had it a while. It would be covered in blooms every other year. In the off years it looked almost dead. May have been a bit too close to the driveway and got too hot in summer.

Yellow Monkey has never performed well here. And when it does it is on short scapes. I don’t remember Darlington County-love those Stamile pinks. Roman Cohort looks healthy. Man of Sorrows is a pretty color. Love Isabel Rose.

It's interesting to see two different views of Sultry Girls. I guess the color really depends on the lighting with that one. I've never seen Blood of the Martyrs look that red for me. It looks even more purple here than it did in Nashville. My favorite of all is Roman Cohort. It's having a really good year for you!

Another gorgeous post Mantis. The purples are beautiful but so are the pinks. Roman cohort looks good Mine had an excellent year and is still blooming because of rebloom. Addicted to Love is so pretty and Sultry Girls in a clump like that is outstanding.Isabel Rose is lovely.

Love the bright red of Sultry Siren. Good to see an evergreen that does well in the north. My yellow Monkey got moved. It tended to sprawl in the old spot, not so now. Wild Cherry Wine is always a favorite.

Wow, you must be nearing peak bloom. Given the crazy weather patterns this year it doesn't surprise me. Hope your getting some much needed rain but then you have to spray again to keep those nasty critters away. Sultry Siren is one that sticks out to me as a winner.

Roman Cohort is the standout to me this post...... Heroes on Horses gets my attention because in your picture at least, the scapes seem to be bolt upright. That's a sturdy feature in a daylily........Yellow Monkey has interested me ever since Ed Burton was on this forum and showed it. The reviews on how it grows over the years always seems mixed. A southern friend of mine loves hers and has no complaints, yet Kate doesn't have such luck. So many daylilies so little space...........Maryl

Julia, fortunately, my home garden, where nearly all the daylilies are located, is enclosed in a netting fence. Unfortunately, at the Urgent Care garden, the deer seem to want to eat everything, including gloriosa daisies (ugh, those rough leaves). The estate is walled. So sad that gardeners in general respond negatively to daylilies in their perennial gardens because of the deer infestation.

This morning, the flowers were ruined by a torrential downpour.

Great post! Sultry Girls is probably my favorite too. Man of Sorrows, Wild Cherry Wine, Roman Cohort, and Darlington County all are beautiful too! Brad

Free Wheelin is doing fine. I probably will divide it again. Sorry I didn't see this question earlier.
