Is there such a thing as reverse allelopathy? My mums seem to die off if they are anywhere near anything :-(

Not in my long experience. its good you wanted to verify for yourself but

be skeptical of ”studies” and how conclusions are reached. and presented.

Thanks so much Linaria for mentioning Linda Walker Scott. She and ”The Garden Professors” provide valuable information about horticultural research and being a more educated consumer of garden advice.

I just walked out and looked at my mums again. I was skeptical of the studies because my perennials are packed in cheek to jowl (I hate to see bare mulch) and those planted next to the mums are doing well. Seedling red maples, tulip poplars and violets are growing in close proximity to the mums as well. So in my experience mums are not allelopathic in a garden setting. And I need to weed out the tree seedlings LOL.
