Basement Layout Ideas

Hi! I'm hoping someone could help me lay out my basement for a remodel down the line. Bare in mind, there are support beams perpendicular to the staircase in the middle of the larger space. The egress shown here doesn't have to go there. And the crawl space will get a membrane where we can safely store a lot of our things so storage isn't a HUGE concern here. We'd like a workout space, bathroom, tv watching area and space for a large table/possibly counters/dry bar. Approximate measurements are 43' long and 27' wide. We were told the easiest place for a bathroom would be near the hot water heater.

The posts will drive many things so show them exactly where they are . As for the rest to little info. How many seats, what is the purpose of the large table , how big is the TV ? Really best to have a designer look at the space in real life armed with all the info they will aslo need,

In the absence of professional help, draw the space on graph paper so the dimensions are clear, showing the support posts and where you want the egress. Then cut out pieces to represent the furniture you want and place it on the floorplan to try different arrangements. Think about where you will need outlets and HVAC vents so those can be put in place before drywall. Is there any plumbing down there already? Sometimes builders rough in for a bathroom to be completed later. If not, get a plumber in to tell you what the least expensive location for the bath would be given where the plumbing for the upstairs is.

I'd start with the bathroom.

choose a space directly below the bathroom on the first floor position everything you NEED for this bathroom. shower, sink, toilet, all have specific measurements, with appropriate distances between required by code...

and build the rest of the space around it.

Yep, thanks, I'm very aware we will need a designer and more detailed measurements for making the actual plans, I'm looking here for high-level advice, and layout ideas (where you'd put the bathroom, dry bar, gym, etc.

As suggested, create a scale plan with everything existing.

We placed masking tape on the floor to “live” spaces in advance of any buildout. Even positioned canister lights.
