That is a really fantastic sketch. Did your family say anything about what they want the inside to look like, how many rooms, and special features?

An "S" shaped house would be very awkward for nuclear family living. A long hike between ends. A fewsolutions I can think of:

• $ house--connect the two curves with hallway or breezeway (depending on your climate)
• Multi-family house. An actual duplex, where you divide into two "Js", or maybe a U and J. For example, top of the S is an bedroom wing, flowing into a living dining space in the upper curve, flowing into a kitchen in half of the middle stretch of S. Mirror it, so the second unit's kitchen is also in the middle stretch, living/dining wrapping on the second curve, bedrooms on the bottom again.
• The real luxury house, where you have enough space and funds for a guest wing. Again bedrooms at the top, flowing into "family room/media room" then kitchen then large entertaining space, with the bottom of the S being a suite of guest rooms.

For any of it, the space between your loops is lush courtyard. Careful thought is needed about placement of bedrooms, bathrooms, windows, landscaping, so that you aren't looking out one room's window into a private space across the courtyard.

So is the sketch looking down at the house from the sky or is it a 2 level house? At first I thought we were looking down at it from the sky and there are courtyards but then I see stairs going up at the bottom end of the S like it is a 2 level house.

Oh, interesting point, Clyde Kalvin! My suggestions were based on an overhead view. If we're looking at the elevation of a 2-story (or 5 story?) house, it's a totally different puzzle.

A famous architect said "form follows function". You've started with your form and you're going to struggle to shoehorn functional rooms into it because your design process was backwards.

Rather than drawing a fantasy house, you'd be better off drawing accurate elevations and floor plans of your current house, complete with measurements. That will help you get an idea of how all the elements work together and what is a large, medium or small kitchen/bathroom/bedroom, etc. Then, you can consider some improvements/changes. How would the elevation change if you made your bedroom larger? What constraints are there?

I like @mcarroll16 ’s idea of the connecting breezeway and lush courtyards - i love this type of tinkering, you have years ahead of you filled with realistic designs so why not enjoy some fun (plus it’s summer and you likely have some time on your hands)

Houses are designed both exterior and interior to work together and I agree you need to concentrate on graduating form actual school with top marks if the dream is architecture you will need to be in the top percentile to get there . I think desiging an imaginary home for your sister is fun project but really as mentioned many times on your posts go get books from the library to read to understand home design basics then have fun
