Energy efficiency is a big component of Castanes Homes.
This house uses a hydronic radiant floor heating system, which is the most effective way for heating a house with lots of open space and tall ceilings. For cooling, we like to rely on passive systems such as cross ventilation, with a smaller a/c system for instant chill for those 5 hot summer days that we get in Seattle :) . In addition the house is zoned into 10 different comfort areas, which act independent of each other, so you can control the temperature separately within the house.

We have also specified highest insulation standards for windows, walls, roof etc.

The house is also able to harvest rain water from the roof, and re-use it for irrigation and the water feature.

Awesome - just love it and the whole idea. Will look at speaking to an architect here in Melbourne to see if we can incorporate some of these ideas. Really love the design - very clever and great energy saving ideas. Thanks
