What does the rest of the house look like?

Off hand, I would say paint. The existing colors seem very drab.

I would start by painting the white squares beneath the

railing to match the wall…and add less modern curtains and rug

Then center the table and chandelier in the room for a more balanced feel…and more room for seating around the table

Here are my thoughts in your very pretty dining room:

• Center the table and chandelier in the room.
• Move the upholstered chairs somewhere else--they don't seem to work with the style of the other furniture.
• Rework the color palette--the rug and wall colors don't relate to each other at all.
• Get larger sconces for the walls--the ones you have are much too small.
• Replace the modern metal and glass console table with something more in keeping with the traditional furniture.
