When are you selling your home? I think the moody dark grey look is cool, but would never select it for a kitchen I am renovating to put on the market.

I would opt for a charcoal/black.

Gray is over and done with. It’s the absolute last choice to put in that kitchen.

I wouldnt paint the island at all. Leave that to the buyer, if they want a painted island, or left as wood. Chances are, the buyer wouldnt like any color you picked anyway. Best thing is to make sure everything is in excellent repair and all works properly, and declutter, and clean, and once you clean, clean it again. Thats what buyers are looking for. Most are aware, they might want to paint walls, etc., but good repair and clean, are what will sell your house.

I would leave painting the island to the next person if some repairs did not make painting it necessary fix. A little triim costs us nothing as we already have the wood and I do believe it will improve. My outdated cabinets were actually an upgrade in 1990 when new and still work well. Trash pull outs are hard on Islands though. For myself, I would have painted the cabinets years ago but my husband is one of those who hates to "destroy" good wood. Since we have been planning a move for the last 10 years most updating has been put off. I cannot tell you how many different fads have come and gone in those 10 years.. The cabinets in my "NEW" 4 year old house are an upgrade and look beautiful but are shoddy wrapped things not solid wood and already showing great wear. I am really going to miss my sturdy solid wood cabinets I am afraid. I would be fearfull if I had children as I know they cannot hold up. So before we clean, clean, clean we strip 35 year old walpaper add a touch of paint and make those little repairs we have put off. Wish me luck! We old people need to get moved before we end up in the hospital.

Do not put new counters on old out dated cabinets it is like throwing money away. I love gray but see no way to use it in that space .IMO for a sale clean and clean again do not change anything in that kitchen since who ever buys the house will probably redo the kitchen . price the home to move on and IMO never renovate to sell. A clean well cared for home will sell.

As others said, the Gray Fad is over. If I was looking to buy a house, wood kitchen cabinets painted gray would be a deal killer for me. Unless, of course, I had the funds to rip them all out and replace.

If you have to paint it, I like lisedv's idea of charcoal. I think it will look better with the wood than what you're considering. I don't think leaning blue is a good idea.
