China cabinet color

last modified: last year

Painting dining room above the wainscoating a tan color and keeping wainscoating white. I was thinking of painting china cabinet tan and white, the molding white and the cabinet doors the same tan color as walls, or should i paint the china cabinet a solid color. Maybe a shade darker? color inspiration is the pillow. Thoughts. Photos of rug and table and chairs that will be used

The floor and walls are cool colors. The pillow is a warm color. If you go ahead as planned, you will end up with a neutral muddy mess. Rooms need to be all warm colors or all cool. Here are examples of cool colors: bright white, gray, ice cool pastels, taupe, silver, black, navy, pine green, forest green, royal blue, purple. Examples of warm colors: off-white, sand, cream, beige, tan, olive green, peach, gold, golden yellow, orange.

Less is more, so definitely one color (not tan) and no special paint treatment. Look to complement the room, but without seeing your furniture it’s hard to suggest. If you want suggestions, providing pictures will help. Maybe consider editing the interior also. Just based on the pillow and what’s behind it:

Also, consider a lighter tan on the walls.

Your cushion looks more of a Greige though and that color family might also work better with your flooring than tan.

    Here are 2 suggestions...

    1. Black/charcoal. Not sure if the back of the hutch is a mirror but if not you can wallpaper the back in a beige/tan colour on white background.

    2. White

You can combine warm and cool and end up with a cohesive space It's not the easiest route but it can be done. The key is to spread the greys and tans around the room. And to include pattern and accessories with gray and tan. Art, pottery, rugs, etc. If you choose a color for the cabinet use that color in your patterns as well.

Using both tones throughout the room will make the choices look intentional. If you don't add things to your room that echo the cool tones of the floor it will end up sticking out like a sore thumb.

I would not two tone the china cabinet. All one color will look better, and please if you must distress it this time, not quite so much as what it has now.

Just looked into installing peel & stick and it can be done on a mirror surface. Here are a few other wallpaper ideas for the background.
