Did you start with any inspiration images, anything you were hoping to achieve with your design? Are you looking for neutrals or do you want to introduce color? You basically have a blank slate, black cabinets, white counters, wood floor and hood.

Your hood is a bit of a statement piece. That doesn’t leave a lot of visual room for an ornate backsplash, but that doesn’t mean you have to stick with white subway tile - although that is an option. Please tell us more about what you like.

Yeah- I love the plain white subway tile, but once I got everything in- I thought maybe some color would be ghos.

That was good- not ghos- anyway, I changed my countertop last minute.

Well, there’s nothing wrong with white bachsplash tile. more homes have it than don’t. Think about size and scale of the tile and don’t be tempted to go with black grout. You’ll be fine. You can tile up to the bottom shelf if you like, but choose a tile maker that makes a bullnose tile so you have the right pieces for your edges. No need to go fancy. Look at Daltile. It’s good quality, inexpensive, and they make aevery trim piece you want.

What color are you painting the walls?

I concur with a nice clean Daltile subway. They are affordable and have all of the correct trim pieces. You wood hood and shelves will look nice against that as a backdrop. Select a color of white - they have a few, that goes well with your counter. Then select a paint close in color to the tile.
