I guess I do that naturally here, Moses, when the roses are resting in the summer heat. Yes, they do form hips.

I’ve done this to delay flowering in the dead of summer, but also because it’s hot and miserable outside, there’s too many faded flowers, and I’m lazy. I think you will get the result you want, a nice flush at a more temperate time. Blue For You is a rose that starts setting orange hips immediately after the petals fall out. I find that even if I deadhead after the hips are already bright orange, the stem will still generate buds and repeat bloom just fine.

Morden Sunrise and Julia Child set hips immediately if the dead head isn't removed pronto.

I do agree deadheading and grooming do show off one's garden in the best light.

How many people have an extraordinary rose garden like yours with a panorama of the great outdoors to frame it?

I for one am hemmed in by a large city hospital directly across the front of my house, with one of its office buildings directly next door on one side, a bookstore on my other side, and numerous old neighborhood establishments all around me. Talk about claustrophobia, Pittsburgh style!
