Ok, so when the fire department responded to our fire in the mudroom adjoining the kitchen, back in the early 1950s, the firemen pulled the drainboard sink away from the wall, and the D/W. (I think to see if the fire was spreading that way? Like IDK) Anyway, the D/W, a FP drawer, needed to be replaced.

And so it was.

We also have another, older D/W in our butler's pantry, and that is the one we always use. But last night was my big dinner party, with 7 "courses" and I used approx. 400 plates, so we pressed both into service.

With my old FP, since the controls are hidden, if you wanted to open it midcycle, you had to use a remote to open the drawer. I called the installer recently and said "hey where'd ya' leave my remote" and he was all "whaaaat?"

Turns out with this model FP, when you want to open it, you knock on the door. Yes. And it opens. I tried it just today and it is such a good party trick.

Maybe y'all knew this. Carry on.

We just bought a Fisher Paykel fridge. I'm going to start knocking on it and see if anything happens.

My son just bought a new range (LG?) and when you knock on the oven door the oven light comes on. His 20 month old son loves this trick.

I’m going to spend some time knocking on all my appliance today. You never know. Of course with my luck a door will probably fall off its hinges. lol

Yes! When I first heard about it I said to DH, "How much you want to bet it doesn't work, or won't work soon?"

Thankfully, I find it very rare that I need to interrupt the cycle. Not to mention, it is very rare that I use this dishwasher. I use the one closer to the cabinets.

I keep on checking back on this forum to see if there is a report on this awesome dinner party that used 400 plates. Were any assistants hired to help serve? Was the food as wonderful as I know it was? How did the whipped cream for the dessert go?

What did people wear?

The dishwashers were a good appetizer but we hunger for the main report. (I hope this request is not too impertinent).

Yes!! Please. And I was wondering how to remove 40 rental plates, etc. for the shower this month. Mtn,! 400?!!!Yowzers. Our college girl just home from London, and a friend, will play attendents. I am sooo in hopes you will post pics of what had to be a beautiful event.

I caught the joke about the fire in the early 1950's, since repair is taking so long, but I missed the one about 400 plates. Depending on how many people and courses, that could be possible, lol.

Me too and am totally embarrassed about it. In my defense, I live in a tiny apt. and do no entertaining on a grand scale, so to me it was totally believable.

My previous Miele DW had the knock-to-open option. Definitely a silly party trick!

Got another Miele DW for the new house, but skipped the K-2-O option.
