Tile ideas please!

I’m finishing up my kitchen. I need backsplash ideas. I was thinking of a muted olive green zellige with brown in it. Or terracotta. or….? Edited to add photo with butcher block shelves. There will be a stainless range hood as well going in tomorrow.

You’ve made that a great space. Zellige is just not the right type of tile for it.

If you want handmade tile with color variation you have a lot of options. But you need to be mindful of the fact that your floor is the boss in that space. All other choices have to be made to go with it.

You mentioned olive green and brown. If you had any other floor, I’d ask you to consider Golden Hour by Fireclay Tile. It is absolutely beautiful, and from the counters up would look great, but not with your floor. Heath Ceramics has 3 different olive palettes with lovely color variation. Again, I just don’t think they will look good with your floor.

I think with your checkerboard floor it might be best to consider a cream that will get along with the floor, or a warm white that matches your cabinets. These are Tusk, Sand Dune, and Sweet Pea glazes from Fireclay Tile.

This looks like you don't have room for a proper 36" hood. How is that going to integrate with the shelves and big soffit? Because I see a blank corner issue, and an issue with coverage over the range. That functionality and space planning has to be solved before you solve a decorative issue.

Your floor is the star of the show. Your shelves are the supprting role. No need to grab attention with more colors or shapes. I’d run a 4” strip of counter material as your splash and that is it. Knowing when to stop and not add more is the best design of all. It is a cute space.

the cream /black/ and white so far is not a color. you can/ and I probably would insert one strong color...not a variegated or multi-tone .

note below the neutral backbones of spaces ....[ creams/ whites/ black ] then in these cases , note the insertion of teal/ blue of choice .......get to a tile store.

The floor is the boss in this room. Go super quiet on the backsplash. @eam44 gave you good neutral options. And match the grout as close as possible.
