Furniture layout help please!

Hi all! i could use some help with the living room layout in our new build. Here’s the space we’re working with

I’ve been playing paper dolls and have a few options. Of note, the tv will be on the left wall, not above the FP. My husband really wants a sectional, as he’s envisioning piling up with the grandchildren for movie night. I’d like to accomodate if it works. On these, each square is 6”.

On this one, i have a regular couch and 2 smaller scale chairs. I’m not sure this works with those chairs having their back to the tv. I could do a swivel, but then their back is to everyone else, so I dont love it.

So, what would you do? I’ve picked (or have) specific furniture in each case, we like the options equally. I also will need a rug, thinking 10x14? 10 is the widest i can go without encroaching on the walkway behind the couch.

My son has a sectional with chaise. The last places I want to sit is working my way into the corner with my feet off the floor or sitting on the chaise sectiion for any length of time with no back.

IMO never use chaise sectional they are awkward when you have guest so a nice sofa and ottoman give you same comfort but not fixed. . I do not think all the furniture needs to sit on the rug but the rug is bought after you have the right layout . Those chairs will need table sbetween them and lamps for sure . The walkways look tight to me and honestly too soon to buy furniture . What works on graph paper for furniture layout often does not work in real life and I never use blueprints to design a space .

Absolutely love our sectional. Zero regrets. So fun for family get together and we all like on it every night to watch tv etc. What you need to add is a chaise to the sectional so it gives you more seating.

Then sit in another spot and let one of the six grandkids referenced above sit on the chaise. My kids don’t even sit on it, they pile up pillows and lounge.

Thanks all. Sounds like 1 vote for sectional, 2 for regular couch. This is the sectional we’re considering, at the top but reversed. The shorter option has a loveseat + chaise.

Fwiw, we are about 6-8 weeks from moving in, so the space is built and the measurements on my drawing are actual. lead time for upholstery is running 10-12 weeks, so I’m actually behind in ordering, bc I can’t seem to make a decision. I have several options on rugs, so just checking if 10x14 seems reasonable.

The top pick is a good sectional as it still has a full couch. The bottom one blocks people in. I just realized it’s a chaise plus ottoman at end that we have. So it’s three parts. Sofa, chaise, ottoman. If we ever decide we are no longer sectional people we can just move the chaise off and use ottoman as table.

Look,

A sectional is a very firm DECISION to forgo versatility. I consider it a high price to pay for a

"cuddle corner"

That said? You want a happy camper DH? Absolute NO NO NO to the chaise concept or what I will call the most utterly useless purchase one can make. Just believe me, please....? In this case, even an ottoman to match, will limit generous and proportional cocktail space. Yes to at least an 11 x14 rug.
