Do you use PayPal?

I use it when I'm ordering online from places I don't want to have my credit card info (which is most of them). I seldom order from unfamiliar places, but once in a while I yield to temptation. Recently, I saw an ad for a clearance sale at Johnny Was. Ridiculously low prices and a few items that I liked (some I didn't like at all). I never would have ordered with a credit card, even tho I know if it turned out to be a scam site I could probably get my $ back. So I picked out 5 items and paid through PayPal.

I never got an email from the site confirming my order, but I got one from PayPal, that listed every item and a button for tracking the order. When I clicked on the "Track Order" button it just opened a new PayPal window - nothing to do with my order at all. Unfortunately, the name of the site changed on the receipt to a Chinese one and I knew I'd been had. I read about the site on their website and it said the orders take 3-4 weeks to arrive, so please be patient. I never heard from them again, so today on week 3 ½, I contacted PayPal and filed a claim. Impressively, they refunded my money instantly. No one would have had time to read my complaint. All I can figure out is that the site scammed a bunch of us and they are just automatically giving refunds to anyone filing for one. It wasn't a lot of money, but I am relieved and impressed with their service. Whew!

    I use Paypal often, even if I have a card for that particular store. I'd rather the money came out of my household bank account than get a credit card bill end of month 😊

    In all the years I've used that PayPal account, I did the same as you one day. Once and once only. I'd been seeing a late night ad for some cute exercise wear and looked them up online. Expensive so I added 'on sale' to my search. I was taken to a site with reasonable prices, ordered, paid, and the next day found the website taken down! I immediately contacted Paypal and my account was credited back that same day.

    OT but I love the Johnny Was line. I usually wait for their true sales and hope my size still available. One disappointment. I bought a pair of leggings that had so much embroidery on the legs it interfered with the 'stretch'. I wore the leggings, feeling cute, then that night I couldn't get them off! I sat down in the garden seat in bedroom almost in tears of frustration, my hand slipped, I banged against the window seat frame with a noise loud enough to wake DH. He got up and helped me out of them. I kept the leggings but rarely wear them.

      That's great. I occasionally use Paypal for the same reason you do.

      Similar instance happened to me on Duluth Trading. If I recall, I clicked on an add for Duluth on Facebook.

      It was as real as it could be until it wasn't. Paid the same way, via Pay Pal. And it was a scam. Fortunately, I was refunded immediately.

      My Pay Pal account is linked to my credit card. 2 layers of protection.

      I also had a transaction where I was very impressed dan relieved with Paypal's handling of it. In my case, I did have to wait about 2 weeks (IIRC) while they gave the other party a chance to reply to my complaint. I had already contacted the seller and asked for them to cancel and refund but they refused, so I was expecting a battle. The seller never replied and Paypal refunded the full amount the day after her time to reply ended.

      I've been buying from a site from France lately for shoes and some "jumpers" I've found-my bank wouldn't allow an overseas transaction on my debit card (per my bank unless I called them to say it was okay), so I instead use paypal and it goes through. I've rarely used paypal until recently, but glad I have it-because I sure love their shoes!

      Most FB ads look phony to me. May I suggest that if you are interested in a product that you not access thru FB but instead go directly to the site. Like clicking on unknown links, you're only asking for trouble.

      I do use Paypal and over the years have occasionally opened cases and have always been satisfied with the Paypal response.

      There are other newer payment methods which do not have the same degree of consumer protection so I do not use them.

      I occasionally use PayPal to buy things online - direct bank debit since they charge a fee for credit card payment. Usually I just use my credit card since I get some $ back on those purchases. I would never use a debit card for an online transaction since the $ come right out of your account with no chance to stop it. I have a faux FB account for some groups I participate in. There is no way I would click on a FB ad and buy something.

      I also use PayPal over other money transfer services (Venmo, Zelle, etc.). Sometimes I have trouble using cc online so I use PayPal. I don't think I've ever had to request a refund. When I have had potential issues with my CITI American Airlines card (lost, accidentally used fraudulent site), they were super quick with canceling the card and issuing me another one.

      I use paypal linked to a credit card. I have a lower limit on this card (by choice) and it is used for online purchases. Never do i link to my debit card/bank account. I do not recall paying a fee to use a CC. (Tina Marie)

      I also use Paypal. Just had an order for Dermacol 210 foundation coming from over seas. After 3 months I filed a did-not-receive claim. The sender kept saying it was on-it's-way. 4.5 months later it DID arrive...it was the wrong color anyway! 😏

      Another years-long Paypal user here. I only wish I'd opened a long ago dispute with them instead of an eBay seller, for something that was delivered to the wrong address. Fortunately it was for less than $20, but I was very dissatisfied with that outcome.

      I've seen some dismissing of Paypal as outdated and the promoting of newer apps like Zelle & Venmo, but they appear to be more problematic, security-wise, so I've only used them when I had to. I'd rather stick with tried & true, I think...
