Your sunken living room has quite a stack of curtain panels blocking light. As it looks now it's a bright room. I am not understanding where this lamp will sit.

We think a brass floor lamp could work well. You could look at doing one with an arc, or not. Below are two different designs of ours. The first image is in a step-down nook area family room. Please note the lamps used in both images though.

I'm attaching a photo of the other side of the room for more clarity. The room is reasonably large and there is a window wall spanning about 24 feet, which explains the volume of curtains (we have a double rod with sheers on the inside and blackout curtains that we do use regularly to block out the bright sun or keep the room toasty in the winter when it gets drafty).

You can also see in this image the double brass lamps to the right (kind of looks like one lamp, but there are two of them behind that sofa on the sofa table behind it, on either side of that painting). I do also have that brass pot with the ficus in it, so the brass lamp made sense.

You don't think the double swing arm would feel overwhelming there, do you?

I didn't consider doing two larger lamps on either side of the little settee there because I tried to be conscious of keeping everything in that little nook on the smaller side, being that it's a pretty tight space compared to the other side of the room. But now that I see what you'd created, I'm thinking I may have been wrong. Hmmm... lots to think about! :))

Another thought: Do you think that far left floor lamp with the drum shade should be replaced with something different? I don't know how well it works now with all the other lighting feeling so different (I used to have two matching drum shade lamps in place of those two brass lamps across from it).

Oh my gosh and the green base in the table lamps you posted, next to that burgundy, picking up on the slight olive undertone in the curtains... I think that'd make me so happy! Now to decide between the taller lamp, which I also love (and initially was pretty set upon), and the two matching side lamps. What would you do?!? Love both ideas!!

Editing because I looked up the WS lamps and they are apparently blue and not green. BUT... the blue is a fabulous mix of different tones and could really tie the different tones together nicely. In fact, I'm pretty certain I see some green tones in them, too. Love these!

I Would get the two Williams Sonoma . Look at that settee and the pillow, look at the picture!

The lamp has enough brass accent!

For me this is duuuhhhhh gorgeous! and may even pick up the color on the back of the built ins...right? and if not a match, do you care? no, you don't.

You have a great eye, great style, and to see such well done wonderful color in a space here on a Houzz dilemma page? Refreshing as a stiff/ cool breeze on a hot day. You pick, there's no mistake in any.

I LIKE the more solid looking, less busy effect of the lamp pair against the backdrop of railing, even though that swing arm I suggested is a great reading light.

I'd call it PEACOCK blue, btw....and my mac is pretty darn accurate as a monitor. Deadly accurate 95% of the time.

Okay, JAN MOYER challenge accepted: I'm placing an order for the peacock blue lamps! =D I do love them and think they'll add more to my interior than the brass floor lamp.

One last thought before I do...do you think it's potentially problematic/may look odd to have the two of them at slightly different heights (since the side table and the book shelf next to the settee are different heights)?

Agree 100% with Jan's take on your room--LOVE those peacock lamps! And you don't have too much pattern, I think you could do with more if you wanted to.

If the side TABLES are slightly different height? You set the lamp that is "low" on a couple of books until evened up in height.
