Salsa Criolla, anyone?

Argentine Salsa Criolla

  • Mix very finely chopped red onion, red and green bell peppers, tomato, garlic (optional), red wine vinegar, and olive oil. Allow to marinate for flavors to develop

My new favorite condiment. It is a great accompaniment to meat. The flavor profile is like a miniature salad with each bite of steak

Sounds great to me, Hubby would not touch it. Has red onion and garlic.

I just had this last week-- love it! The vinegar bite with the vegetables is perfect with steak!

ETA I just had some waygu flat iron steaks delivered to my nephew and his wife (quick meal for new parents) .. I am going to make them some salsa criolla too. They'll love it. Thanks for the reminder/spark!

Sounds yummy. We hardly ever have steak but now I want some. Seems like it would be good with almost any meat or maybe cod. Hmmm.

Sue, the restaurant I went to served something very similar with halibut .. I agree, it would be great with any meat!

Yes, really it can go on most anything. It was standard to serve a small bowl of this and a small bowl of chimichuri with all meats and with empanadas.

@Funkyart, crazy that you had this last week when I don't think I have seen it here! Hope you had a wonderful, well-deserved visit with your SO!

Yes, I havent seen it here either. I had it at an Ecuadorian restaurant.

I had a great visit-- thanks for asking! I ended up extending a week (but working) because we wanted more time and then another week due to sinus issues including 2 migraines that prevented me from flying. 4 weeks total .. honestly a little more than was ideal but we enjoyed it all!

That totally tracks, since it is really all over SA. What else did you have?

Oh my, so sorry about the migraines! They can be so debilitating. Great to be able to work remotely, though. Welcome home.

I have only ever had 1 migraine up until now-- so I didnt recognize the "aura" as a precursor to the migraines. I told SO that something was wrong with my eyes-- I was seeing colored bubbles on my periphery .. duh.

I had churrasco and a white sangria slushie .. SO had a pernil sandwich -- I wanted him to get the halibut (we share all) but it was too much food. We could easily have split just the churrasco but I always want to taste more than I can actually eat lol.

We really liked the Ecuadorian restaurant but the big star of the visit was a Laotian restaurant -- which also inspired me to make 2 thai dishes at home. (thai coconut skewers with peanut sauce and red curry vegetables (with leftover skewers).

My next new recipe will be Khao poon gai .. a delicious chicken noodle soup in a coconut curry broth

I have had something similar also, but can’t remember where or when. We ate a few times at an Argentinian steak house in London years ago with our Brit co-workers so maybe there? The beef was so good. Now DH and I don’t eat beef very often. I’ll try this anyway, as we like to flavor things on the side with something yummy and savory.

Funky, I’m sorry about your migraines. I am glad to hear you had a good vacation, even with the health things thrown in your way.
