My recommendation is that your friend join Houzz and post for herself. We will likely have questions that you cannot answer, and she will have questions herself that she should be able to ask. Besides, we don’t really do middle men here. It’s not a reasonable use of our time.

I have no problem with middle men, or women on Houzz so long as you can fet quick answers to questions.

I’d switch to polished chrome hardware just to lighten up the look in here and therefore likely do a polished chrome fixture as well for the table.

Can you show pics of the rest of the room? I don’t understand how the rest of the space gets light from a single fixture in the center of the room.

I’d also ditch the stramge, heavy blue valance.

My suggestions are illustrated below, I would also replace the chandelier with a more current style and install it lower at 30-32 inches above the table top.

Believe it or not, there is only one other light in the kitchen. It is a can light over the sink (which is opposite wall of oven). She is going to try to add can lights. Just trying to lighten up the look as well as be able to see! I will get a pic from the other angle.

These pics are from the previous owner. So the furniture is different.

Under cabinet lights can also be added.

Agree with lisedv. One can get thin LED strip lights that plug into an outlet, screwed to the bottom of the cabinet. It would make a world of difference!

Look for a more linear chandelier for the kitchen island. Investing in more can lights would make a HUGE difference in that space. Under cabinet lights for sure.
You might want to consider a different hardware to spruce up the cabinets. (Brushed gold, maybe.)

We might suggest looking at doing LED lighting under the cabinets and then looking for a pendant light with multiple lights to go over the island. Below are a few ideas from various kitchen designs we have done. Please notice the under cabinet lighting:

They should decide first on whether they will do can lights. I recommend doing them for more lighting throughout and NOT hanging anything above the island.

The island is kind of dinky, and having alight above it calls attention to it’s dwarfed size. The overall feel of the room could be better with a hanging light only over the table.
