Replace Giallo Veneziano kitchen counter with ???

Ready to let go of our Giallo Veneziano kitchen counter tops, but with what? Our first thought was butcher block. Then black soap stone, but black would show every spec of dust. I am not a fan of white cabs and white counters. Cabinets are antique white. Hardwood floors are a natural maple. Kitchen open to family room. The big brown bulky tv cab will be going. Talk about a slow adventure on finding its replacement. Jeepers. Thinking low console to houzz (hahaha) all the equipment that requires hook up. Blinds to be replaced by somesort of shades. I do like the rattan/wicker look that I have been seeing. Ugh, am I a mess or what? This is where the Houzz community rocks. You are a wealth of knowleddge and ideas. I appreciate you.

Will you be replacing the black appliances at some point?

Imo, they make your kitchen look choppy, which makes it look smaller. I also think you should get a counter depth fridge so that you don’t see the side of the fridge sticking out so far beyond the wall.

I would change the fridge, stove, and microwave to stainless. Personally, I do not like above the range MW‘s. They are worthless as far as sucking up smoke, grease, odors, etc… I also find them dangerous for kids and shorter people to use. Actually, the first thing I would want to do is replace the above the range MW with a real hood that actually does it’s job.

After getting stainless appliances, I’d reevaluate the countertop. They actually don’t look that bad to me because they play nice with the maple flooring.

I love soapstone! I do like the Jet Mist idea in a honed or matte finish since it does mimick soapstone but without as much upkeep. But, again, if you are keeping the black appliances, black or dark grey countertops may make the kitchen look even darker then it is.

Yes to new window shades. Yes to getting a new low TV console as it will allow more light to come in from the one window on the left. I would also get new bar stools (not black), and new cabinet hardware.

Sorry, did I just bust the budget? 😬😆

Mind you, this is not at all how it typically looks. Imagine papers on the coffee table. Backpacks on the floor. Kitchen, in between meals with all its glory of pots/pans/dishes. We are definitely a lively family.

I'd be tempted to do a honed jet mist if you are not wanting a white counter -

I'm with la_la Girl on this. Jet mist with a nice backsplash tile, not that huge 6" splash you have in there now. You may want to take a trip to the granite yard. There are so many fabulous colors out there that are not white!

@rebunky Budget? Um, yes you did bust it. lol BUT, I would absolutely go for stainless steel. Our stove has been acting up. Oh jee. What a bummer. Looks like stainless steel will be in our future. Counter dept would be nice. Hood instead of mw. Check, check and check. (or credit card...hahaha)

IMO get stainless appliances and keep the real stone counters Better lighting , I like all LED 4000K and as for the TV cabinet you remove it get a nice simple lower long cabinet wall hang the TV just above it and be done no need for those monsters ever now.. If you insist on anew counter go green soapstone

lighting looks ample. I would place a pendant above the sink area and something above the peninsula for a bit more style since the bulky piece will go..... you can get a better stylish look between the peninsula and tv wall and add a low stand or console...etc. work in progress to be determined.... RE counter...I like the granite but it needs the strip removed and a white backsplash. Its a nice space overall but the kitchen cabinets look older so I wouldnt put new counters on those....and the granite seems fine.

elongated single fixture above peninsula would do wonders ..how about rattan stools? must ask....where do you have a table situated? if the bulky piece goes and you wall mount the tv, doesnt a round table belong in that floor space area? I think i'd do that.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting - decided to keep the granite and spend our budget on new appliances and a new low tv console - to which I've been combing the internet. Lots to choose from. Lighting would be an improvement.

@herbflavor - Replacing the current back splash sounds like a great idea.. Antique white cabinets with the granite might be tricky to blend, but there are so many options out there. doable. I like the rattan stools. = )

Good plan as for the TV check out Besta from Ikea you can design the pieces for a really good custom look for how you live.
