I have had several roombas and was pretty happy with them, but they all eventually got error messages that were impossible to fix. The last time I bought a Shark which self empties into its charging station, a feature I really love. But it doesn't do as good a job cleaning as the Roombas do. And it gets hung up on the curved chrome legs/base of my barstools and cannot extricate itself, which drives me crazy. That means I can't run it when I'm gone and expect to have things clean when I return home. I do no recommend it. I'm going to return it to Costco and see about a Roomba with the self emptying feature. I haven't had the floor mopping option...seems like just more features to break.

That's the trouble with all these features - they break ... and the machine needs to be replaced ...

... till the owner goes broke.

Following with interest. I was also just thinking my Roomba, Rosie, is no longer cleaning the way she used to. She’s not throwing error messages though; she she just doesn’t seem to be covering all the surfaces like she should.

Thank you 3 for your responses. Oly, the self-emptying part does interest me, too. I do hope that some folks with recommendations, etc. chime in.

A friend bought a Roomba but after a few months it started to bump into things and could not find its way home, ran out of charge and died on the battlefield. He smashed it. That solidified my decision not to try one.

No luck with 2 Roombas, one refurbished that my husband ordered from a accidentally.

We then bough a simple, no-bells-and-whistles Eufy and love it—it sucks up lots of dirt and dust, which neither Roomba did.
