Exterior update ideas…

last month

Renovating this house and plan on painting the brick. Any paint color suggestions? The windows and garage are new. Front door and landscaping will eventually be updated as well. And ideas are appreciated.

I would leave the brick alone. Its pretty. Put a roof over your front door, so it doesnt look so plain, and get a landscape designer to design your landscaping, and then if you wish to, you can follow the plan as a diy. New landscaping would make a world of difference, without ruining your very nice looking brick, that is maintenance free.

The brick is lovely and I like your windows too. Will the roof be replaced? On my phone it looks to be a dull gray which unfortunately doesn’t blend well with your brick. If you feel you MUST change the brick, be sure to use paint especially designed for brick (e.g. Romabio).

Your instincts are right about the front door and the landscaping. That hedge along the driveway is truly dreadful.

You have a lovely wooded setting.

Thank you for your ideas. We plan on removing the old driveway and sidewalk and are thinking about doing a semi-circular drive in the front . Going to add a front porch with cedar columns and the boards above windows will be cedar.Trying to figure out how to add a covered parking area that would still look pretty and add more parking space.

The front door might be fine. The white screen door is a problem. The garage door could be painted to better match the brick. The brick is nice, the landscaping is lackluster.

Make sure the paint is for masonry.

I would choose a gray or taupe color of equal tonal value to the roof. Anything bright, too colorful or too dark will make the pale roof look washed out.

Painted brick is a maintenance nightmare, and I would never recommend it. Besides, the new front porch you're planning will look good with the brick. I agree with others about the landscaping. Put your money into plantings instead of paint.

How are you going to move a driveway that leads straight to your garage? I don't think you really have room for a semi-circular drive, especially with your plans for a front porch, but I suppose you could wedge it in somehow.

Decided to not paint the brick. All siding on sides and back have now been replaced. Going to paint the siding BM Thunder and trim in BM Sparrow. Front storm door will paint black until we can get the porch built. The 3 pine trees in front and all bushes will be pulled out. Busting up all old concrete in front, reconfiguring layout of drive and will redo landscaping.

What are you going to use your garage for, if you are busting up all the concrete. A garage is really nice to have, if you have bad weather.

The garage will stay as is. Will be repouring the driveway.

it seems like the circular driveway would provide extra parking. A carport with posts could constrain the configuration.

Instead of a carport in front of the garage, what about a portico for a car in front of the front door instead, that could also act as a front porch cover.

Pam, I love your house as is, except I would have a dark roof and redo the landscaping as you mentioned. I would not add a porch or overhang-the house is a classic ranch with clean lines and I would keep it that way. Your garage looks good, but perhaps down the line you may want to switch the door to one that is more modern. I like the Avante style with your house. They look better from the street than a solid door, I think. The doors are not see though, but they let so much more light into the garage which is very convenient. Link:

We have Frenchporte doors which look like French doors. They are more expensive than solid doors, but they are wonderful and look beautiful . We have had them for almost at least 25 years. We have the Jennifer style because they are less busy and I prefer †hat. Link:
