I like a lighter body color with white windows (unless there are a lot of windows with chunky trim) - but a white house seems at odds in a forested location? if it were me I’d go lighter but still natural - maybe a knocked back sage green?

Usually I prefer lighter colors on houses but that dark looks great in your wooded location!

Thank you for the input so far! I usually lean towards white/light colored homes too. But the setting makes me question white. Fortunately there are only two windows in the front, so hopefully that helps not draw such a contrast- I too wish windows were black and not gridded. And I don’t mind a medium dark but I would have to look at samples. I don’t tend to love grays or lighter greens. Maybe its because somehow I read those as traditional home colors and not as modern. Maybe I am wrong-I will try to find examples of medium darks like mentioned.

I prefer the light color over the dark. That being said the white seems a bit stark. Perhaps consider another light color for the body of the house. I also think your renderings look better without the shet roofs.

Color alone doesn't signify traditional or modern. It's the way you use it that matters.

You are at the stage where you could still add windows. Is the house dark inside? Some areas look like they could have more windows added.

You seem to have a very wooded setting, so rule out white and go for a sophisticated in- between color such as those Diana Bier suggests. That way you won't get too much contrast with white windows. In a wooded setting, blending in with nature is usually a good way to go.

Chispa-we cant make those types of changes unfortunately. The patio door wall on top and bottom help. The windows are a good size in the back too.

IMO rooflets over windows are silly and not at all "timeless." They are unnecessary trim. On the garage, fine. You need some detail.

If I only leave rooflet over garage , would it look unbalanced?

The rooflets don't bother me. The window one seems rustic/cabiney if you like that look.

I like the Cocoon mentioned it has some green undertone which is nice for a woodland setting. I looked it up and it compares to Porpoise which also has a bit of green undertone according to my search.

I agree with a light sage or mossy green and no shed roof over Window. a sandy color like khaki would also work.

Why is there a shed roof over the garage [door] ?

The builder of these homes tends to add a shed roof over his garage’s . They run 2 recessed lights into it and use cedar brackets on left and right of it to stylistically tie it into the cedar post design of porch. They put a metal accent roof on it rather than shingles. I would have to pay to add one one on the left window.

Leaning more towards white but as noted by others, the white is quite stark for the location. Like Kathleen MK suggests, a sandy color would work as well.

Not a pro... but I don't like the shed roof over the window, for me that makes the house front look cluttered. Much better without that one.

What possible reason for the shed roof at all? If it is for shade use solar shade inside. IMO the one over the garage is a case of too much for no reason. I think a nice shade of green in that lot would be better than a dark almost black and for sure with the white windows and if not farmhouse on your mind this is very close in style.. IMO ahuge lack of natural light inside for sure The lot looks large and the decks too small Lots of stuff too late to fix now I guess .

Why bring up stuff that's too late to fix? It's tough buying a house in this RE market and the OP should not have to justify their decision to anyone. They are asking for advice on how to deal with the house they already have.

Their are lots of well thought out opinions here to work with. Ignore the naysayers.

I think it may look plain without the shed roof above the garage door (and the other one), but it looks contrived with it to me. Aesthetic interest to the home can be achieved in other ways more betterly.

I asked the builder about removing that shed roof. We will see what happens.

I guess the other question this brings, is if I do a medium green or even darker green…black front door and black garage door make the most sense?

Black or Charcoal sounds nice for the doors.

I like the shed roof....adds interest and is practical. My BIL spends a lot of time in his garage so for someone like that especially.

I like the shed roof over the garage. And I really like putting downlights in that to illuminate the garage - put them on a dimmer.same for the porch. A simple lighting idea is good here.

And a green / olive / khaki can work here - giving you the natural look for the woods, without the visual distraction of contrast from the white windows

I would say no to those shed roofs. I would do a pergola over the garage to match the posts .

I would also opt for darker colors - greens , greys, browns - especially in that setting
