The Kenmore BU4050 Intuition performed well in CR's tests and is reasonably priced. Your desire for a "lightweight" vacuum cleaner would point to a stick vacuum but those are bagless which you don't want.

^^^I believe that would be correct about any of the decent upright stick vacuums. All the ones I have seen are bagless. I wouldn’t have anything else because I can actually see the debris in the canister and I almost always empty when I’m finished. It takes a few seconds to empty right into the trash bag and we’re done. I love my Dyson but believe the Shark stick vac has received some good received from CR as well recently at a much cheaper price. I don’t know if the better stick vacs have corded models available. Do you have a nearby outlet that would work for you for the charging station?

I have the Kenmore intuition listed above. It is fine. It has a small head so is annoying in a larger room but for a mudroom it would be fine.

I too prefer a bagged vacuum, which is what led me to this one.

I know how you feel about vacuum bags, but I had real trouble finding a basic upright with bags, so I had to go bagless. I had a Shark, which performed better than I expected and was a very good value. (I no longer have it only because I no longer have any rugs or carpets.)

It doesn’t meet your requirements but a Dyson V8 cordless stick is a great solution if you’re willing to consider it. I just charge the motorhead on the counter and store the stick in the ”broom” closet. I have a Miele canister and an Oreck upright and haven’t used either one since I got the Dyson.
