Master Bath Remodel Help

We are struggling with what to do with a total remodel of a 90’s add-on master bath to our 1971 MCM style home. Currently we have a large Jacuzzi tub we want replaced, a new custom built-in MCM-style double vanity, and all new surfaces. The dilemma is in deciding whether to replace the tub with a wall-to-wall shower which would necessitate removing the windows that look out onto the back yard and river (no privacy issue). There is a skylight near this area and a transom window can be installed high on the now windowed wall. The current shower would be removed and supposedly cabinetry put in its place. The room has a linen closet, but may need to have the traditional door replaced with a pocket door if the shower is moved. Not really a problem, however.

Should we keep the 4-piece layout with a new soaker tub under the windows? There are three full bathrooms in our home and one has a tub/shower combo. Our builder thinks a shower where the tub is with a pony privacy wall of tile would be the way to go. The shower would need a door as the bathroom tends to be cold in the winter. I just feel conflicted with losing the windows. We are in our seventies, but are not wanting to hinge every detail on resale one day. Thoughts?

I wait for the plan . There are ways to do a shower with windows your privacy is not an issue from what you say so why not a great shower that looks out on a view. I would do this in heartbeat

Post a scaled drawing of this bath.

That means every solid inch of wall, every opening, the window, entry door. Every inch of it, just as it is now.

Pretend this is a bath, not a kitchen: ) example below

Graph paper is fine, neat, use a ruler bold and legible.

That is the BEST method for good advice, and note if you are on slab...or crawl, or basement foundation

The technical issues with keeping a window in the shower are all resolvable with a large enough budget to handle them. Windows are not meant to be waterproof from the interior, and are not safety glass, when from that era.

What is the motivation or goal for the remodel? Bigger shower? Tub leaking? Better window views?

Which would you use most? Even though i don't use it daily , This old body needs long soaks in a tub.

What WE don't have is the extremely accurate , 2 dimensional , drawing. The one that shows every solid wall, every window, every jog, turn , opening and the dimensions for each of those.

You can get the"builder" to do that drawing to 1/4 or 1/2 inch scale ( even better ) .

He notes the plumbing locale, especially toilet soil pipe.

If we had that, we might even be helpful "designers" .......as builders and contractors are not "designers" : ) They are technicians, You are in fact the "designer", unless you hire same.
