Blinds - inside or outside mount - or alternatives?

I've installed tons of 2.5" wood/faux woodblinds before and always done inside mount - but we are buying a new construction house and the window depth (mounting area) is surprisingly skimpy at only 2" deep (and no trim/framing around the windows - just bullnose drywall corners).

If I want to do this blind style I'm going to have to go with outside mount (lower pic). The upper pic with the label on it was grabbed to illustrate the look - I don't like it so much. (covering the whole window and extending beyond the edges) Is it just me - or does this look seem like a hack job?

Is it possible to partially inside mount these type of blinds with only the 2" and just have them protrude an inch or so?

What else could I do with 2" of depth and have something of a nicer high end look?

Cellular shades are OK for simple coverings but lack a see through opening like 2.5 blinds offer.

Mini blinds just look cheap.

Zebra Roller shade - also requires 3.25" depth.

Anything else that could work that has the partial open/close functionality of a blind?
