I really love my Company Store down comforter. I throw it into the washer and dryer and it comes out beautifully, very little down lost in the process.

I've had both Company Store and Cuddledown down comforters for years and can recommend them. About 8 years ago we switched to alternative down comforters and happened to buy them from Cuddledown. I like oversize comforters because they drop down enough to cover my mattress.

Garnet Hill. But we too like alternative version but they do have down.

I have my Company Store one. One from Macy's. Link One from Linens & Things. I just took a look....Macy's has a sale on white goose down comforters. I'd buy another one from them.

I recently purchased one from Feathered Friends (they are located in Seattle), 850 loft, medium-warmth, Bavarian style (stitched through construction). They also come in a baffled box construction. It was lovely and very lofty, but I returned it to exchange it for the Arctic-fill version, but they have been out of stock. Shipping was fast and the return was easy, though I did have to pay $14 for the return fee (they supplied the shipping label and deducted the $14 from my refund). Unfortunately, they are frequently out of stock.

I didn't think the down duvet that I purchased from the Company Store last year was worth the money vs. other down inserts that I've purchased over the years.

How much money do you want to spend on a down insert?

I don't have a dollar figure in mind; am just wanting a good quality down comforter.

And a question for those who have switched to down alternates. Why?

Costco’s down comforter gets good reviews and I’ve been happy with mine. I think it is 650 fill and I use it year round, does not shed, it’s been in my washing machine and all is well. Maybe $115.

@Eileen Company store used to have Velvet Flannel sheets that were the best. !00% cotton and NEVER pilled. I loved them so much. But then they stopped carrying them in favor of Portugese cotton flannel. I have had those before and they always pilled ( I didn't even try the Company store ones). But not too long ago, the Velvet Flannel made a reappearance and I have bought a couple sets that are just as wonderful at the older ones.

It is the Velvet Flannel. The corner seam ripped soon after I bought it. They replaced it but the replacement pilled, so that might have been the new style. I ended up sewing the corner and going back to the Velvet. Also a few months ago I pulled the top sheet (Velvet) up over me and my thumb went right through it! Granted they are five years old but they don't show thinning anywhere.

The down throws have had the quilting stitches break, the color fade, and the down flatten to where I'm not sure if there's any left on the top end. These haven't been used regularly.

The Feathered Friends "Arctic" warmth 850 fill power down comforter was finally back in stock this morning and I placed my order. I didn't notice until right after I'd placed my order that that the description no longer says that it is made with Organic cotton fabric and that designation has been removed from the specs! I'm not very happy about that, because I assumed I would be receiving the exact same product I received a month ago, just in a different weight. I had fully researched this comforter before purchasing and I feel duped that they changed the specs in the short time since I "exchanged" my comforter. I went back and looked again at their fabric description page and the "organic" long-staple cotton yarn description has quietly been removed from the specifications page! I'll be calling them tomorrow for an explanation. Interestingly, the price did not change to reflect this "downgrade" in materials.

I have bought quite a few down comforters over the years. My first few were from a Hutterite community at least 40 years ago. Those were really well made and lasted. However, I've recently started buying from IKEA and, honestly, they are some of my favourites. I find that their warmest is too heavy, but the next heat level down is perfect (but keep in mind we live 3 hours north of Faron in North Dakota).
