This is my table for tonight. I’m hosting book club. Casual. Lasagna, salad, and bread. Apple galette for dessert. It’ll be something similar for Christmas brunch. Same china and placemats, but I’ll likely use luncheon size silverware.

@porkandham, Very festive! I love your Trianon silver pattern. It's such a nice transitional pattern that can lean contemporary or traditional and minimal or ornate depending on the setting.

This is my table setting yesterday (and slippers)

My magnolia tree was a birthday gift from a friend and it originally fit in my car. It won’t do that anymore, and I love it, But I wish it were the sort with brown backs of the leaves rather than green on both sides. It still comes in handy for decorating.

When i was cleaning up from book club, I gave my Christmas brunch place stting a test drive because itll be a very short turn around from the Christmas Eve cocktail party to Christmas morning. No time to make changes, and everything has be ready to go. Same china and placemats. I’m using my grandmother’s silver, and we’ll do crackers.

I have delegated setting the table to my niece (30). She says she’s got her mother on board with using plates, glasses, etc that can go in the DW. I ironed, packed, and hauled red cloth napkins.

Not really as much fun as a table setting for a sit down dinner, but this is my table as I’m getting ready for tonight’s cocktail,party.

Thank you Bluebell - I am a big fan of the Stick Candles. Discovered the maker at a little shop in Highlands, NC and he showed us his molds and process. Just love them.

Ruby your table is beautiful, as is the room! Those built-ins are so pretty. And how I envy you all that lovely light that makes living in Florida in winter such a treat. I really miss it during our most damp and dreary winters.

I was looking forward to sending a picture of our table using the Hester & Cook mats and runner. If it happens it will be greatly scaled back. Almost everyone is sick! We bailed out on dinner with Sister and her family. The tenderloin may have to wait a couple of days. No one has an appetite. Being sick at Christmas is annoying but it could be worse. At least we are all together!❤️

Very simple, because I know my family. We have everyone set down their drink and pick up a plate (claims their territory!) and serve from the hot trays on the expanded kitchen table (through that doorway on the right, it was clothed and decorated after I took this photo). There are tea lights down the center here that were lit in time for dinner. it was a lovely Christmas Eve dinner. It looked much the same this morning for brunch! and now just the center and tablecloth remain, while I sit with my feet up, listening to Christmas music on acoustic guitar, tree lit, candles even thought it is daylight for another hour yet.

Sending fond wishes that peace will find you all where you are.

Our Eve dinner. i had exactly enough gingerbread house cookies left from a large order to make place cards.

Our dinner was very successful. Everyone was a membernof the clean plate club. The little boys ate all their salad and cadged croutons from their table neighbors 😎 To my surprise they loved the steak and everything else. The adults were also very happy with dinner. Everyone likes their beef at a different temperature so I had the butcher cut the tenderloin into two inch steaks. I seared them on the stovetop, then finished in the oven for times based on their desired doneness. They were perfect! The horseradish cream was another hit, but I can honestly say everything was eaten and appreciated and exclaimed over appropriately. I am pooped and going to bed!

I served Christmas Eve dinner on my grandmother's china with beautiful napkins I recently bought. Then, Christmas dinner was a great spread with William Morris paperware for fondue. And, of course, I didn't take a single photo. Ugh.

^^^^ It's a line from a classic poem "A visit from St Nicholas" . It looks like a picture of Santa on the plate that corresponds with the snippet of the verse.

Yes, I figured it out a few seconds later. I'm well aware of the poem. Who isn't? But the word "in" wasn't clear so I read it as "to" -- "tight to" being a typical construction. I thought it was funny when I reaized it was from the poem. Gives a much different picture when you think someone is holding tight to his teeth!

Pal, your picture and comment about the light hitting the table reminded me that I did take one picture. The sun must have been just right when I happened to come into the kitchen-it comes in at an angle I guess and it blew me away.

ETA: The play of light is caused I think by the sun bouncing/reflecting off the deer.

I just finished cleaning up Christmas. Yep! You read that right. Now my home feels a bit empty😩 It had to come down, we have so many big Birthdays this year, all in January! So we will be celebrating all of January. When will this diet ever start 🤪

Hester and Cook has a sale on. I’ve got these placemats in my cart. The first set for Thanksgiving next year and the bottom set just because I like the exuberance of the picture. I have no idea when I would use it, but it looks a little 4th of July-ish to me.

I recognize that artist in the second one. I have a jigsaw puzzle from her and some notecards, and I think @Sueb20 has a print from her that she framed?

I ended up buying the placemats above plus napkins to match the previously purchased nutcracker placemats which will probably be gone by next Christmas. If so, the napkins will make cute guest towels. I also bought these napkins/guest towels to use with the candy cane striped runner that we did not get to use this year.
