Guest House Color Conundrum

last month

Hi! We are building a guest house that will be about 100 feet from our main house. The first photo is our house - white with red attached garage (intended to look like a barn). The guest house will be near our barn where shown on the second photo. Both the barn and guest house will be visible from the driveway and the front porch. We can't decide what color to paint the guest house. Any advice would be welcome!! Thank you!

What will the guest house look like?

I would probably just do it in red with white trim, like your garage.

Are there any animals in the barn? If there are, I wouldn't place the guest house too close!

Wow, that's a really nice design!! I'd paint the guest house the same as the barn OR the house, I wouldn't add another color scheme.

White would help with the separation of dwellings from functional buildings. Red would help it fade more into the current ensemble. A brown or olive would help it disappear into the woods a bit, if you're feeling like a village. :) A yellow would be welcoming, especially with a periwinkle door!

I do not love the red it is not a barn so I probaly would do whaite for the guest house to sit near the actual barn that I assume will be red . Sort of works

I think it depends on what the style of the guest house will be. If it will look like a little house, like farm staff quarters, white. If it will look like a shed, chicken coop, etc, red, or white, because the red is already a pretty strong statement.

Same as the house. Consistency. Utility structures are your red, people buildings are your white.

I would paint the same as your house, or you could paint the same color as your barn. Either will work, and look good.

The garage looks like a horse stable. Or meant for that because of the roof pitch. I'd repaint the garage white and use another color for the guest house and barn if the design of the guest house somehow coordinates with the barn. If not, I also would move the guest house away from the barn and add evergreen landscaping.

If you’d like the 4 structures to have a connection, use the same green on the house and garage doors.

Does the interior of the barn, have true barn fittings (post and beam look)?

Why not turn it into the guest quarters.

+1 to posting a visual of the guest house and any path or landscaping you plan around it.

Depending on your budget and the guesthouse style, a white building with a red metal roof could be fun if coordinated with the house/garage/barn colors.

The guest house should be painted white or red to match one of the other structures. Love the idea that your garage looks like a barn.
