Some of the features in the current kitchen hint this was a remodel. When was it last done--in the 90s perhaps? How old is the home? Is there anyway of knowing what the original kitchen looked like? Do any of your neighbors have the same home?

limited counterspace and storage can be addressed . the hutch area left of fridge can/probably should be removed if your statement truly reflects the goal. You can have deeper counters there with all base drawers. You can add upper wall cabinets instead of the decor upper arrangement. If you want to do more in the space [stove placement? better venting?] youd have to post full measurements and the adjacent areas .

Are you wanting to do a complete redo or what exactly ? A to scale plan is a must for any help as Jan states. My first thing was the stove needs to not be there . But the floor plan will be a huge help. Also real info as to what you are willing to do.
