What ideas are there for an open beam ceiling and kitchen cabinets

Some people on these forums have an aversion to any open space above cabinets and a phobia of the dust that might collect above those cabinets! ;-)

Some also "hate" high ceilings!

I don't have those issues, so when I built I did beams in my kitchen ceilings and the cabinets don't go to the beams/ceiling. My ceilings are flat and 12 ft high in most of the house, with wood beams in several rooms.

One option is to use all wide drawer base cabinets with no uppers. This is seen where an expansive window area gives views.

If the beams are actually structural, then the open space is just maintenance. If the beams are decorative, look very hard at them to see if they are realistic. Nothing is worse than wallpaper beams stuck on "for decoration".
