Do you have Home Depot near you? You can go to their web site and check to see which herbs are available for pick-up at the store nearest you. The web site will also show you what is out of season.

@mtnrdredux_gw, do you have any friends with currently growing herbs who would be willing to divide a plant or give you a cutting?

In the alternative, Tractor Supply has some sort of herb grow kit. The picture looks like basil, chives, and parsley. I don’t know exactly where you are in ME. I randomly put in Kennebunk. There is a Tractor Supply in Sanford ME. You can pick up the kit there on Tuesday, Jan 13th. Or if you want to drive to Dover NH, you can pick it up today. Herb Grow Kit from Tractor Supply.

I doubt it‘s the source of the plants that dooms them this time of year as it is the time of year that dooms therm.

Pretty sure our local nursery (which carries indoor plants year round) has them.

Trader Joe's has basil plants here. The plant nursery we go to will tend to have some herbs in cooler weather, but supplies ad variety vary with daylight hours, sunshine and temps. Do you have any year round farmer's markets there? Growers of herbs and microgreens? I do believe this is the reason you see indoor herb growing setups marketed - winter availability.

Which herbs are you thinking of?

I've started my own basil and rosemary from the cut fresh organic herbs Trader Joe's sells in little plastic boxes - I just put them in water and sunlight until they sprouted roots, then potted them up. I have some sage rooting now.
