Hosta H 2025 ............

Somehow someone got the crazy to start spring cleanup in the dead of winter. I know last fall I left everything clean and tidy. Gremlins. There has been simply beautiful weather here and I am taking advantage of it. Now I just have to wait on my back to catch up.

Hostas with the letter H for today.

Yesterday it was close to 50 and sunny. I head out to the garden and look for things coming up, then I remember it is January.

    Poor R2-D2.

Beth you made me laugh on that one. We are having our warmest day today but it is raining. Yesterday was pretty great too. Heat Wave looks like a good one.

jocl17 wow HD has such great form!

    Very nice Hole Mole Saija.

Ben great leaf pattern on Hans. I hope those nasty voles leave HB alone.

    Hands Up

    Hanky Panky

    Her Eyes Were Blue

Holy Mouse Ears. I had to dig it up and separate the good from the reverted parts. I will replant in spring.

the octopus story!..animals are smarter than we think..

Beth..we were in the 60's yesterday..I was out for hours tidying up..mostly collecting sticks..I pulled quite a few small branches out of my shrubs..

    jocl17..go Hoosiers!..we'll be watching tonight..

Saija..Harry van Trier is adorable..I love little hostas..

Ben..I hope your voles disappear..I've had moles but not voles..the moles made a mess but didn't hurt my plants..they eventually left..I didn't do anything to repel them..

I have tags for Hadspen Blue and Halcyon..I think this is one of them..not sure where I planted the other one..I have blues everywhere..I love blue hosta..

Honeybells..I have 2..wonderful fragrant blooms..this is an old picture..it's pretty wide..

I'm planning to plant all of these..I planted Autumn Frost last year 👍..Honeybells is the one at the bottom of the picture..

old_dirt..your Halcyon and Hadspen Blue photos make me think the photo I wasn't sure about is Halcyon..

I also looked at the other photos on the thread..

maybe I can find Hadspen Blue this summer..

    Halcyon in there with friends

And an update on the kids about a week

Paula, loved all the jokes today especially the R2D2 and octopus ones. Had a good laugh with those.

Beth, your Heat Wave is lovely as well as your Halcyon.

    Joc17, wow to Go Hoosiers!

Saija, nice Hanky Panky and Hawkeye! Also love Hydon Sunset!

Ben, your Hans looks like mine……. In a pot. I hope your Hudson Bay recovers…….maybe a pot would keep the voles away?
Laurie, nice Hands Up. Also what a big Hanky Panky! And, Hot Kiss is a beauty!

Sherry, that’s a great grouping of Halcyon!

Laurie, I wish I had a Honey Bells……can you send me a division? It seems you have a big enough one to spare a piece. 😉

Old_dirt, your Hudson Bay is stunning! Also 3 nice High Societys.

Paula, the eaglets are growing! Love seeing them…… Your Halcyon has a thinner leaf than I would expect…..could it be something else or is it young?

nicholsworth - Not sure what you are saying/asking. I'm reasonably sure Hadspen Blue is correct but I've been wrong before. The Halcyon is actually a reversion of June, I assumed it could be called Halcyon.

debra - The High Society shows up? It doesn't on my end, just the name.

old_dirt..I don't know exactly where I planted Halcyon and Hadspen Blue..I think both are in the frontyard near the path..the leaves of your Hadspen Blue are round compared to the unknown hosta in this pic..so I think this is probably a Halcyon..

When June reverts, the reversions are Halcyon. I have also had a reverted June, so Halcyon start to sport back to June. Go figure.
Old_dirt, the High Society shows in the houzz thread for me. Any others not seeing HS?

    ebra

debra - Yeah i have at least 6 Halcyon and never bought one :) I have one June (of three) that has a reversion almost every year. I've dug it out and separated it, cut out the piece of crown and just yanked it out but it still keeps coming back.

Have a great weekend everyone. I am visiting my son in Ontario and it was 8 degrees out with rain at the end of the day. Crazy weather!

As always, thanks for the funnies, Paula. They're really needed these days.

Beth, Ben D, Laurie, Sherry, old_dirt, debra, mbug, ALL very nice Halcyons! That one is well worth having.

Saija, I’m enjoying your large collection of hostas. I’ve never heard of Hertha.

Laurie, it’s good to see your Hands Up is still going. Mine dwindled away. You have so many mature hostas that are a pleasure to see here!

Debra, your Hans is very pretty. That’s an impressive High Society.

Debra and Sandy, love the Hope Springs Eternal. I am a sucker for ruffled edged with a color accent.

    Sherry

Sherry that is a lovely big patch of Halcyon.

Ann another great Halcyon and a nice big Honeybells. It will be a time saver to get the rest planted. I imagine you need to bring them in and out fairly often in spring depending on the year.

old_dirt what a wonderful Hudson Bay & Hadspen Blue. I hope the deer leave your Happy Dayz alone. I have to spray every 2 wks. or I would have nothing left.

Paula Halcyon is one we all need. The little eaglets already look fierce! Love the update.

Thanks Debra! I found Hanky Panky to be a fast grower. You shouldn't have to wait too long for it to take off. I don't have Honeybells either. Ann & old-dirt have the large clumps.

Debra wow you have quite the collection of H's. Hope Springs Eternal is terrific and great shots of Hans. Lovely High Society & Heart and Soul caught my attention.

mbug I looked up Holar Purple Flash, it is fabulous. Hotshot is terrific, I do love a yellow with red legs. Is that Hadspen Blue under Hotshot?

Shadow Humpback Whale is great and another beautiful Honeybells.

Lisa I look forward to seeing Hampshire County as it matures over the years. WOW what a spectacular Hope Springs Eternal!

ARGGHHHH, some 'ol posting BS again.... one more try....
I'll start off with 'Hacksaw' which I've had since '09. It's been an enthusiastic grower, bit of an unruly growth habit, flowers well and usually sets seeds. Over the past couple of years I've had more than a few scapes that had buds on them that never opened into flowers and then went on to sort of set seed as well, nothing usable though to sprout.

I've used it as a pod parent as well as a pollen parent.

This is one of last year's scapes with buds that didn't open.
I do have 'Halcyon' but no recent pictures. They've mostly come about as reversions of 'June'... sound familiar?
Lastly I have 'Hands Up'. I've had it since '16 and it has not exactly been a stellar performer. It's struggled and I think it's mostly due to drainage issues, seems to be very picky. I have found some spots in my front garden beds where I can accommodate some hostas and that's where it'll go in the spring...

Thanks Laurie. That's what happens when you don't pay attention to copy and paste.

I changed it.... it is Hovercraft.

Pieter I have always liked Hacksaw. great flower colour whether they open or not. I found Hands Up grows well in full sun here.

Thank you mbug it is a beauty!

5-7-25..a volunteer..a hosta right?..none of my hosta resemble this one..reminds me of Hacksaw..

Thats interesting Ann. I hope someone can verify that volunteer is a hosta

    Sherry

    Possibly narrow leaf plantain?

    last modified: 12 days ago

2 more in a different spot..odd aren't they?..the tiny round leaves on the left look like a hosta..maybe Blue Mouse Ears?..

    indianagardengirl..I'll research plantain..

Ann I believe both pics are Hosta. It is possible the tiny round leaves could be BME but a lot of plants/weeds look like that when young. I get random seedlings that often look like a mature one nearby but other times I am left scratching my head. If they are interesting enough I will watch for a year or two. I end up moving or tossing depending on how they look.
