Need help with appliance and backsplash decisions

Hi…I’m currently renovating my kitchen. The space isn’t huge but it isn’t small…it’s essentially a U shape and I’m really just redoing everything in the layout it is, and adding a “coffee bar” that leads into a breakfast bar. My cabinets are a beautiful juniper green color and I’m going to be adding a calcatta premata quartz countertop. All handled and handmade will be brushed gold (so softer and now bright gold). I am trying to find a tile that aligns with my countertop and potentially do herringbone pattern and I’m stuck on a Samsung package for appliances particularly because I love the 4 door bespoke fridge. I’m trying to figure out if it should be matte black steel or stainless steel. Does anyone have good suggestions?

It’s going to look great!!! Good luck!!

I'd prefer the stainless appliances, the black is pretty dark for a small space.

Yes, to the subway tile but light with a burnished edge to lighten it all up a bit. Paint the walls and ceiling light, like SW Alabaster as a good start to sample colors. Replace the ceiling fan with a semi flush light fixture... where is the Coffee bar?

Oh that’s a beautiful visual! I’m feeling so nervous about the appliance color because it’s obviously a big purchase to make and so I want to make sure it’s the right one! Good to think about the black steel in a smaller space, great call. The coffee bar will be on the right hand side leading into a breakfast bar with the same countertop!

And do you suggest no ceiling fan at all?

yes, no ceiling fan needed in a kitchen, you should already have a vent over the stove, and you have a window.

    ok that’s a good call!

Ceiling fans don’t belong in kitchens. They collect dust and grime, which get blown into the air when the blades are spinning. Yuck.

Yes to installing a semi-flush light in its place.

Can you give some other ideas of semi flush light thing? In the picture originally shared, it looks good above the island, but I won’t have an island in the middle of my kitchen and it’s a smaller space.

    1. What are the width and height of the refrigerator space?
    2. What is depth of the wall to the left of the refrigerator?

My kitchen is a wide-ish galley, without an island. I can show you my semi-flush lights, just as an example. Alas, the company that made them (Wilmette Lighting), was swallowed up by another lighting company (Tech Lighting), who discontinued most of the Wilmette line.

We looked through many, many, many lighting sites online…tons of scrolling…and also visited lighting stores in person, to find what we wanted.

Are you keeping those tiled floors?

The height of the fridge space is 72” and width is 36”. Pretty standard. The depth is around 30” I believe so it definitely has to be counter depth for sure.

Noted on the lights! I’ll start doing some digging. Easier to not replace the fan with a fan to be honest. There will also be lighting under the upper cabs.

Flooring is a hybrid wood and very light. I’ve attached a pic.

    Thank you!! I agree completely

Beautiful color choices and your new floor is going to change the look of the room entirely.

I recommend not getting an appliance package. No one company is the best at making each type of appliance. For example, I'd never get any dishwasher other than bosch but I don't need them to make my fridge or range. For this reason, you should get stainless appliances because they will all look good together, even if they are from differerent companies. Plus, the stainless will look nice and bright in your space.

Thumbs up for getting rid of the fan in a kitchen. It looks like you have cut holes for recessed lighting. Can you do all recessed throughout your kitchen? I think it would look better than mostly recessed with one flush mount.

If you do a flushmount, you want something with enough of a glass shade as to not create glare. No fabric shades in a kitchen.

Love your cab color - hope you keep posting pics as you make progress ✨

I’m a big fan of the Samsung 4 door French Door bespoke fridge. My brother has it in his lake house and it’s great for entertaining. You will love it.

For backsplash tile, have you considered Daltile? Their Color Wheel tile has several whites to choose from that might pair well with your counters.

Appreciate everyone’s kind words on my project!!! I went a little different with the cab color and love them as well! Will post some more pics today :)

Noted on the appliances Kendra’s — I just happen to love the Samsung Bespoke line to be honest. But seems like the consistent response has been stainless! I’m going to ask my contractor today about recess instead of the fan. I can share an updated but there are already 4 recess lights around that space.

Eam44–the Samsung 4 door bespoke fridge is the exact one I want so I’m so glad to hear that you’ve experienced it and that it’s great! My biggest concern was whether I should go all matte black or stainless steel but it seems like stainless steel may be the way. Also, not familiar with that tile. Do you have a link?

I have never bought or suggested all appliances form one maker there is no maker that makes all well. I like the samsung fridge inn plain old stainless then get range, or what ever cooking appliance you need, thta works for how you cook in plain old stainless then a good DW my 1st choice always Bosch. You need major work on lighting no fan in a kitchen only venting for the cooking appliance . Love the color of the cabinets BTW

Your new kitchen is going to be lovely! I agree that you should consider Bosch for your dishwasher. I have one and love how quiet it is. My refrigerator is Whirlpool and my range is Frigidaire Gallery induction. Each were chosen for the features that made most sense for what I needed in my kitchen. Samsung also has a reputation for difficulty in getting parts for repairs.

"I’m stuck on a Samsung package for appliances particularly because I love the 4 door bespoke fridge."

What you can fit there depends on the width and height of the opening and, since the refrigerator will be adjacent to a wall, the depth of the wall.

Another vote for stainless. I would rethink the Samsung package idea. I have a few of their appliances, customer service and reliabilty has been lacking. But you might have better luck 🤞 I like your choices, it’s going to look great!

BTW, I like some of the glass flush & semi- flush light fixtures on Rejuvenation.com.

Thank you all so much for the great recommendations!!! Noted on the appliance packaging. I feel like they get you locked in offering package discounts.

Spoke to my contractor and we’re going to leave the fan out :) we have recess lighting and will either add additional OR flush lighting. Love the Rejuvenation.com site. I’ll be using that for sure.

I will share more updates soon!

Hi! Sharing some updates and hoping to see if anyone has any tips. Don’t mind the little mess with the sink area but everything is slowly coming along! Really need to choose a tile but having a hard time. Truthfully, I’m thinking of a herringbone style but cannot align on color or tone for the life of me. Here were some options I was thinking of but stumped. I don’t have much time either.

What’s the view out of the kitchen. The backsplash will need to go with the general vibe of what’s adjacent. For example, your herringbone tiles look kind of blingy fancy and more dressy. Is that how the rest of your home is? Or are you more casual, classic, MCM, etc?

Great question! I’d say I’m definitely more modern minimalist. So the other thought is just keeping it simple with more of the subway tile and letting the countertop be the focal point.

Agreed Rey. It’s easy to get excited in the tile store and buy something that is interesting or cool but doesn’t really fit the big picture.

Sorry for the late response. You can find Daltile Color Wheel here. Big box stores often carry it as well.

"The depth is around 30” I believe so it definitely has to be counter depth for sure."

Be careful. If a freezer's door isn't fully beyond the adjacent wall, you won't be able to open the door. The LG LF24Z6330S has a "zero-clearance" hinge.
