Hair static!

Im having an awful time with static in my hair. Ive tried adding extra product, spraying my hair and brush with hairspray and still it’s flying all over. I have to wear my hair in a ponytail so I dont look like Ive been electrocuted.

Does anyone have a good solution for this? If it matters, my hair is fine, stick straight and about chin length.

Ive heard a metal comb can help so I will try that, too.

    Do you use conditioner?

I have similar hair but only have static if I've been wearing a winter hat. When that happens, I just wet my hands and kind of pat my hair down a bit.

I did stop using conditioner because under normal circumstances it weighs my hair down. Ill try it again. This is making me crazy.

Patting my hair with water does the trick. But, I don't think I have as much of a problem as it sounds like you are having.

Is your home super dry? Overly dry? Might you need a humidifier?

Every now and then my hair will seem to get unsually staticy and I'm not really sure why. While I don't have a permanent solution, I have on occasion smoothed my hair over with dryer sheets and it seems to at least help for a bit.

I'm pretty sure my hair would be wild with static without conditioner. Maybe you can find a conditioner that works for you. You also might try only applying conditioner to the lengths of the hair and not to the areas near the top of your head (where I'm guessing it's getting weighed down).

The only reason I use conditioner is to eliminate static. Also, I only comb my hair once in the morning and before bed. The rest of the time I use my fingers as a comb.

You may need to try several conditioners before you find one that 1) eliminates static and 2) doesn't weigh your hair down.

Have you tried a spray bottle with just water - or water with a little bit of conditioner in it?

I use a dryer sheet on clothes and hair when needed.

Virtue leave-in hair conditioning spray or Virtue Un-frizz leave-in treatment. The latter is for curly hair which I don't have. I have fine hair but a lot of it. Cut is chin length straight bob with bangs.

I had never in my life used a leave-in product. You control the amount - i have never had my hair look 'weighed down' using it- their products are genius.

I've gone from daily shampoo and blow dry to every two or three days and I'm very particular about my hair. Cons: It's expensive and while I've changed no other products all the pillow cases on my side of the bed are silk. I've been buying Blissy, machine wash but hang to dry.

Conditioner doesn't prevent static for me. Static isn't too much of a problem unless I pull a top off over my head. Then I look like a dandelion gone to seed. In the morning I just run my damp hands through my hair after I wash my face and that's enough for me to brush it into place. I do the same thing if I've stirred it up after taking a top off.

I am so relieved to hear that others use dryer sheets on their hair too! I thought I was weird.

Static guard sprayed on your comb and brush.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Ill go back to using conditioner first.

My furnace has a humidifier, so I dont think my house is overly dry. I havent been getting shocked when touching things, either..

Inhave to retrieve some laundry from the dryer so Ill grab a dryer sheet to try, too. I may have some static guard in the back of the closet.

Homestly, just putting my hand near my head makes my hair jump up!

    Thanks for the ideas.

And in case you didnt believe me! Admittedly the hat enhances the effect.

Dedtired - we've had so many really cold days in our area lately that I've also noticed more static in my hair. We have a humidifier on the furnace but I think the static is probably because the house is a little dryer since the furnace has been on so much.

That's what mine looks like too. I've used static guard on my hairbrush and that works well.

Maybe let your hair get dirtier? Or maybe try a hair oil? Mine gets pretty dry from wearing hats, and clean, dry hair is perfect for static electricity.

I also have fine, straight hair and have terrible static. I use Johnson & Johnson No More Tears Detangling Spray after shampooing and it really helps. If I am going to use this, I skip the conditioner. Static Guard sprayed on my hairbrush also works. Another trick is to put hand lotion on your hands, tub it all the way in, and then smooth your hair.

Can you tell this has been an issue for me for my entire life?

I swear by a dab of John Frieda Frizz Ease touch up cream. Just a dab on your hands and then lightly on your head. It does wonders.

Jojo, you made me think of the old Brylcreem jingle ”a little dab’ll do ya, you’ll look so debonair” ( age test)

Thanks for the tip. Ill look for the FrizzEase. I now have a nice list of things to try. I woke up looking like I stuck my finger in an electrical socket.

Ded, i just checked and the product is called ”straight Fixation”

I was having a terrible time with static recently. I put a little dab of Cetaphil cream on my hands, rubbed it into my hands fairly well, then ran my hands through my hair. I was out of town and needed something NOW. It worked. I don’t know that I’d recommend it as an everyday solution, but it did the job for me when I needed it.
