Stone for Fireplace wall

last month

Hi everyone, so what do you think ? This is the split face ivory travertine that goes
with my floor
I love this look, , it gives us some texture ,we would be doing the entire 10’ wall along with the return on the side . Is it too
much?
I have attached my inspiration pic, I know it’s from 2012 , but I feel this is a very timeless look.
This is a 1500 lb addition which would be fully supported underneath with beams and a wall. I have not found anything else that I have liked as much as this stone.

Maybe the colours on my screen are off but your sample seem to have a pinkish cast compared to your floor.

No there’s no pink in any of the stone

You don't show the side of the fireplace in your photo.

Lisdv thank you for the picture, that’s what it would look like.
Here is a picture showing the right side of the fireplace.
There is a built in cabinet going in the cavity , it will consist of 2 glass shelves and 2 doors , one in the bottom and one on top. These are the same stain as the kitchen.. with the wall that is beside the fireplace, there will be a cut iut with a built in box to hold the wood so it’s not on the floor. This wall would also have stone., maybe it would be to much stone.out 36outout 36” high and 18 “ deep

IMO way too much heavy looking stone for a very tiny firebox

Patricia, we also now agree, we have decided to do 6’ high with a Mantel and drywall on top and also no stone on the right wall.

With the built-in cabinet you describe with glass shelves I'm not visualizing the design with stone on that side. To you have a sketch of your built-in?

Lisedv, the stone was going on the right hand side where the fire wood is sitting.
After much thought we agree with some of the comments , toomuch stone , very heavy for a small room. So we have now thought about using the stone up to 5-6’ then putting in a mantel and drywall the top along with the right side wall . This will also solve the supporting of the stone underneath the floor .

LiseDV, I do have a drawing but not available , it’s already been built just waiting to stain the exposed pieces such as the doors and the wood behind the glass shelves. We decided to use that cavity for something instead of just closing it in.
If anyone could please show a po tire of the stone going 8” above the fireplace and include a mantel and white above it .
    Thank you all so much

I definitely agree with no stone on the right wall. However, I prefer the entire wall in stone. Here are a few visuals to compare. 1) just the stone - no decor. 2) with black metal discs decor 3) upper drywall and mantel.

Found this picture that's similar to your room.

Lisedv, thank you so much, my husband originally told me he did t want the full wall done due to the additional weight of 1200lbs plus the weight of the mud. No doubt those pictures are beautiful , I don’t care that ivory travertine is not the trend , I love it , I like the picture with the stone going half way. Out wall is 10’ tall and almost 8’ wide . We don’t have much wall space at all in those space so it will be refreshing to have something above the mantel.

We have alot of renovation going on, we are moving here full time in 4- 6 months. I’ll make sure to post pictures and I’m sure I will need lots of help from the amazing Houzz community .

Your inspiration pic shows the veneer wrapping around the corner. This gives a realistic look of being a solid chimmney wall. If you go ahead with the cabinet doors and.. shelves idea, the brick will look stuck on.

I was just using the pic as a wall picture of the stone colour and look
